What is the best cat to learn to drive in?

I would say an older car without power steering or ABS and certainly without these silly parking sensors, anti roll back, and lane control assist gadgets.

Driving should be about developing mechanical sympathy and understanding with a car, something you can't achieve through a car with lots of driver aids.

Progress is always good. Driving skills are about observation and planning just as much as they are about mechanical control.

How does unassisted steering make anyone a better driver?

You can learn to work with the car [any car].

You get to feel the road and the additional pull at speed which makes you appreciate the current grip levels.

I don't really like power steering for me it took away a lot of the feel you get. With modern wide wheels and low profile tyres I appreciate it is important but even when weighted it still doesn't give you that feedback you used to get.
