Hi everyone,

New to the forum and wanted your input regarding 1/4 mile times for me and my friend.

I have a 2010 A5 2.0T and my friend has the A4 same year and engine. We ran 8 or 9 1/4 mile races one day last year in October. I was stock and ran between 15.0s-15.3s. My friend's A4 was chipped by MTM (270hp) and he ran between 14.5s-14.8s.

We returned to the drag strip yesterday night. My A5 was now also chipped by MTM (270hp). I ran about the same as last year (15.0-15.4) and my friend ran really much worse (15.3-15.7).

1- I don't understand why I am running the same as last year with a extra 60hp now that the car is chipped. I was expecting to run like my friends times last year between 14.5-14.8

2- Don't know why my friend also ran so slow compared to last year (around 1 sec slower ...)

Does anyone have a idea why this could be the case ? Could it be that the temperature last year in October was much cooler and account for the difference ? Not sure what other factors could cause this ...

We both recently installed "speed boosters" and thought maybe this was causing the problem. We both turned it off but no difference ...

Would appreciate your input.

Thanks,

Steph

there are many things that can affect quarter mile times.

ambient air temperature, air density and humidity, how well serviced the cars are, the initial launch off the line, the quality of the tyres, tyre pressures, the temperature of the track, quality of the fuel, there are so many variables.

try servicing the cars thoroughly and making sure the tyres are up to scratch.

and....

Welcome to torquecars!!! :)

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

I will read up on the forum so I can have a better understanding how all the variables come to play and how they impact your quarter mile results. I thought it was pretty straight forward but now see it is far from it.

Warm weather can have an impact on a cars performance, affecting grip, intake temps and amount of O2 in the intake charge.

In the warm weather there is at least one positive - the grip. Everything else that happens in the negative is just a nuisance.
