Would you trust a completely autonomous self driving car?

Tesla have changed their software to insist that the driver still takes the wheel and has a backup role in driving the car. Does that meant hat we are still years away from self driving cars?

It makes us appreciate our skills, distance perception and hazard perception and how hard it is to write this into software and sensors.

Should they ban self driving cars?

You got a thing for the ban hammer today?

I would not ban self driving cars. But like anything "fully autonomous" there should always be an element of human control.

I can see chaos when there are a lot of self drive cars on the road. The occupants will not be concentrating as the car is automatic as far as they are concerned. They will be reading their phones. People buying them will be like the American idiot who, a few years back now, turned on the cruise control on his new RV and then went to make a coffee! AND he got compensation!"

As I understand the existing rules, the human has to keep his hands on the steering wheel as all times. If that is the case, why bother having a self drive car?
