Just had a look on autotrader for cars under £1000 with engines over 3 litres and there are some real gems out there.

There are quite a few really nice Jaguars on there. Some of these could make great project cars, change the body work or whip out the engine and running gear and you have the makings of an awesome car.

What are your thoughts on buying bargain basement cars and doing them up?

All my cars are under £1000, Volvo T-5R (worth a bit more than a grand now), Volvo S60 T £650, Jaguar X Type £350, and I originally bought my Volvo 850 T5 for £350.

The only problem I can see is that while bigger engines can often take higher mileages cos they're less stressed, the rest of the car might not be able to.

I'm liking this Saab:

Knock them down to a grand and you could have a nice cruiser there.

I love Autotraders utterly random "you may also like" cars. Like I'm just looking at 4.0V8 Jags and at the bottom there is
You may also like: Suzuki Alto 1.1GL

That makes me laugh too!

Put some nitrous on a 3.0 Jaguar and you'll have a real monster, strip it out for the best effect and create a cool track day car.

I had the griffin for around 18 months.....loadsa problems :(

Saabs represent great value for money and are pretty reliable and fun to drive plus they have loads of gadgets to play with. I think most people ignore them, until that is OS drives past!
