recently had my centre section and backbox replaced, and since it just doesnt feel the same, the nippiness has gone. it just doesnt do anything anymore.

sort of feels as tho it is being restricted. going to try a fse fuel boost valve, and egr valve (i bloody hate these stupid, stupid contraptions.)

does anyone know of a reputable place where i can get one cheap? been quoted rediculouse prices: from 80 to 320. going scrappies in the morning anyway

what does the fse boost valve do appart from raise the fuel pressure to around 4bar from 2.5ish.

does it give any more power or just better throttle response

EGR valves are a bloody nightmare. They are supposed to help reduce emissions. What's the point of diluting oxygen (one fifth part of the intake air) with spent exhaust gasses? It only makes for ever dirtier engines and exhausts.

EGR valves clog up and create more exhaust shite as a result. Most cars use them even back into the mid 1980's!

If you can get the EGR functionality disabled in the ECU (yes, I'm a fan of electronic tuning) then you will never have issues with the EGR valve.

Surely it cannot be good for any engine to re-inhale its spent (exhaust) gas.

The green wonder society will say different. But of couse they will. They feed their own kids on liquidised grass cuttings laced with waste dish-washing-up water in the interest of 'greeness'.

They're probably vegetarians, too!!

it manages to reduce combustion temp to about 1200 ish i think, but i do knowthat mine will be clogged up thith carbon deposits.

i'm thinking of cleaning it but for the same labour i might as well change it if it becomes cheap enough. since its jammed open (fault code is now on) nox has skyrocketed and it doesnt smell the best at all. the centre section is correct yes, i couldnt have had less restriction when i had a huge hole in it...

fbv, increases throttle response, mpg, reduce flatspots etc. they can be adjusted for when you get into racing. and don't really do much for bhp in total. helps to shift at full throttle and cruise more economically when on motorways etc.

NOX is always increased if combustion temperature goes up. CO decreases generally in the same situation. Chucking hot exhaust gas back into the engine will increase it's operating temperature, thereby putting NOx even higher.

Any anyway, what about the green thing. Somewhere in the world factories and chucking out dirty fumes as a result of the fabrication and manufacturing process.

All we're doing is moving the source of emissions really. I think cats were a step too far, too soon. Back in the early 1980's Honda had some very successful prototypes of the CVCC engines. These ran on incredibly lean fuel/air mixtures. Sadly, legislation trashed two decade's worth of investment and research by making the cat virtually mandatory for petrol cars.

That's the reason that diesels now generally flatten petrols with similar sized engines in performance terms (and they do, without question).

The legislation was also a step not far enough because at that time diesels were truly horrid, noisy, slow things that belched soot and all sorts of other crap from the exhaust.

yeah the fctory i work at must kick out more co2 every day than what the 200 workers do driving there and home everyday. my department alone chucks out more rubbish every day than the wife and me do in amonth

pgarner, it's good to find someone still working in manufacturing in the UK.

Let's hope that this country (or collection thereof, I'm totally aware that the UK does not just consist of England) can get a foot back into worldwide manufacturing and industry in general.

With the imminent demise of Northern Rock it's hard to see how Britain can be the centre of worldwide finance and money services.

One of my clients is a property repossession specialist and they're up to their ears in excess work.

For me, that's a sad situation. How the hell did we get here?

To summarise, good on ya, mate.. and I hope that industry in this country picks up BIG TIME. And, well, stuff the emissions crap, let's get some cash in first and get everyones' lives back in some sort of order where we're comfortable and can make a decent living without killing ourselves in the process

Rgds,

Paul.

You better remember it Lockerbie Cheese Factory is the best/ Highest qulity chesse in scotland. infact if you buy any scottish cheese from tescos it will prob be from lockerbie

the northern rock to be fair is it not part of an american company which has had issues with morgages in the the us of a

iwould also say thats the problem here is high prices
between me and the wife we earn just over £30 k a year before tax and overtime. we have no kids but our morgage is £400 a year then council tax insurance gas phone eletric and thats just on a on a flat the house prices are soaring to high ( our flat has gained 23k in 2 years. ive spent about 2k doing it up, now worth around 75 for a 2 bedroom flat )
just got our new morgage fixed and i was told i could get up to £70k onmy salary but i would have no money to spend thereforend up in debt have to borrow to get out of overdrafts and cc bills therefore still in debt fal behind in payments and lose the house. its a shame i work with some great folk and 1 is just over 40 and still living in a council house simply because he cant afford to pay for a house.

talking about industry picking up. we got told about a rival company starting in the next 2 years at carlise that will prosess 1.5 million ltrs of milk every day, to put it nicley we produce 80ton a day on 900 thou a day.
a big boost to the general area but on the other side gates (which most cars use for timing belts, drive belts) will prob be shutting down withen the next 5 years due to undercut prics from abroad.
industry wants cheap labour( we just accepted a 3% payrise compared to some thats nothing and we had to fight for 6 months for that ) so they arent going to find in in the uk so go elsewhere.

as for the emmissions and global warming fuk it. not to long ago we were in an iceage around here before there was dinos wandering about. anybody who looks at the history of the earth will see that the world gets hotter and colder.
me personnay i think its because the orbit around the sun is not circular its elliptical and changes every year there for sometimes were closer to the sun and others were further away.its also documented that the axis of the earth changes every so often so much so that the magnetic field changes so the mag north would point south. this has been found to have hapened a few time thou not much.

industry is better i have more time off than the wife who wors in a hospital she works 5 days with sum sunday work i work 3 and a half with up to 18 yes 18 weeks off if i take my holidays at the right time. iam also paid more than her( quite a bit ) and a lot less stress

can i ask what you do hdi going by most of your posts i think you should be a lawyer

Global warming is a bit of claptrap really.

Let's face it, there's been ice ages, hot and cold planet syndrome millions of years before man evolved. The little bit of time we've been on this planet hasn't really given us a chance to make that much of a difference.

Look at it this way. Everything is solar powered in the big scheme.

OK power station burns coal. Which started as wood. The trees that consisted of this wood grew by the light of the sun.

Similarly petrol/diesel. Organic life millions of years ago that ate stuff in the sea. All this was fuelled by the sun's energy.

OK, a few million inside a rock seam changing into crude oil. But using NO RESOURCES AT ALL during that time.

Perfect.

How much cleaner can you get?

I'm quite fond of cheese I have to say. My waistline is less so! Any my kids will kill for the stuff. Any cheese, even the exotic European ones.

Only thing is, I don't get mine in Tesco - I avoid that place at all costs.

Morrisons, Asda and Waitrose are my choice of supermarkets but even then I won't buy meat products as I choose to support local farmers and butchers. It's a dying trade in this country.

not millions HDi, the last recorded ice age was a gew thousand years ago.

sorry to say it but the whole idea of global warming was set of by maggie thatcher, trying to get rid of coal miners. by employing scientists to make up stories about fossil related reactions causing global warming drove people in favour of nuclear power. it is all purely political in order to get brownie points betwen political parties.

global warming is all bobbins and lies, and we, as the public, have been mislead. al gore the tit published his short film on the incovenient truth which is a load of bollocks anyway. the graph he produces shows CO2 compared with Earth temp. which incurs a 400 year gap, 400 year from CO2 being high to a change in the temp.

remember earth millions of years ago was purely an atmousphere of co2 and o2 was around 12% the only reason why the temperature of earth has risen is due to solar activity, dying stars, sunspots etc. now if you do your own research i guarantee (as a biomedical scientist) that the increase in solar activity (remember the sun is dying) is an exact fit, in terms of graphs, when placed of earths temp rise.

GO AND BUY RANGE ROVERS AND X5's ITS ALL LIES, I AM BUYING ANOTHER FRIDGE AND PUTTING A PACK OF MALTESERS ONLY IN THERE.

we supply a lot to morrisions or used to anywhy and i think we supply all of asdas scottish cheese as well or are going to in the future never heard since the announcement that we we trying. also supply m&s with higher quality cheese.
yeah my generally we get meat from the local butcher simply because it tastes better and is the same price. we also know how old it is, straight from the slaughter house to his fresser.

yeah looking at the history of earth in a day we only arrived at 3 mins to midnight

everybodys on about how we are damaging the environment but if you look at the effects on the ozone layer ( which all greenies complain about ) is repairing itself from the damages.
now think back to the industrial age when you couldnt see the sky because of the smog compared to today where we can see no bother

this country being green is very simple

change where we get our power from nuclear is the cleanest and most efficient so why not use it more ( Alex sammond take note)

wood burning power plants burn more wood than can be regrown as well as producing lots of co2. if the tree havent grown then they cant say its been offset

solar power in britain    heat water for a house but thats about it

wind power. norway first pioneered the wind power and have now stopped using it as it uses more power when theres no/little wind than it can produce. it needs to keep turning. Take note those who think its the saviour of power as turbines placed behind another one get less wind as it has been slowed down by the 1st one. again cant produce enough for the whole of britain

hydroelectric. this mainly uses lochs on hills running water through a turbine. however the water is pumped back up to the loch at night using power up

sorry page just updated with aswearing comment the sun is dying yes now hopefully hell back me up on this. as a star gets older does it not also get bigger and hotter, as for an ice age are we not about due one the last one was only supposed to be a small one was it not

maltesers no buy a handfull for fridges and put a beer in them all and set it to the highest setting to superchill it #
mmmmm

couple of thousand years the sun wil swallow the whole of our universe and explode as it dies, nothing will survive.

as for nuclear power i am very cautious due to chernobyl, it is extremely clean and comes in copious quantities but once depleted where do we put it? it remains radioactive for decades and the only solution we have at the moment is to bury it in concrete barrels.

its the way forward but i beleive there is alot more research to be put in to this.

by the way i jumped on the techno bandwagon, at themoment i'm writing this from a pub at uni. god bless wireless.

yeah but surely the techno has evolved since chernobyl
if we could find a way or reusing the byproduct then we would be sorted
apart from weapons

as for the sun eating us all up i thought it would have tken more than just a few thousand years. not that it matters we arnt going to be here then
yeah wireless is great you can now use laptops anywhere although it is still a bit expensive.

I like it when you get stopped for some bloody traffic survey and you're asked the prupose of your journey.

My favourite response is : 'No purpose other than to needlessly burn a few gallons of precious fossil fuel'.

I was referring to the roadside ones where they funnel you off into a layby and then ask their couple of questions.

I suppose you could argue that you're sat in your car, engine idling waiting to answer questions that have no value and STILL burning fuel.

neverhad thooseones been stopped in shopping centers and asked how i got there and do i know how much damage ive done to the envioment depends on which mood am in saying i no speak english gets rid of them

or saying that you came in a 4 ltr car makes them mad ether way i go away wwith a smile on face
i bought the petrol , paid the 70% tax of whatever it is now, al burn it however quickly i like. i also have a job and dont camp out at heathrow and power plants saying that we destroying our planet

same works with the charities that stopyou in the street asking for you to donate £5 a month to help children in some country as them what they do for a living and how much they donate. i had one lassie walk away from me cauuse i turned round and saidi work hard for my money i dont doss aroundon the streets asking others to donate. she wasent happy
