I AM TRYING TO GET SOME HELP I HAVE 2 TWIN ONE AND A QUARTER INCH SU CARBS WHICH I WANT PUTTING ON MY 1275CC A SERIES MINI I HAVE A DTM SPORTS EXHAUST WITH CAT THATS ALL THE MODS I HAVE DONE.MY LOCAL TUNING CENTRE SEEMS TO THINK IF THE CARBS ARE FITTED THE EMITIONS WOULD BE TO HIGH AND IT WOULD FAIL AN MOT. THE NEEDLES CURRENTLY FITTED ARE STAMPED WITH THE LETTERS EB.
COULD YOU PLEASE TELL ME WHAT WOULD BE CORRECT NEEDLE AND SPRING SETUP TO GIVE ME MORE POWER AND NORMAL EMITIONS?

The only accurate way to get the right needles is to buy some and get along to your local rolling road. Formulas and calculators are ok for giving you a rough idea what you should be fitting but they do not take into account the camshaft you have, how well tuned your car is, the springs you have in the dashpot, whether you have modified the carbs, the way you drive etc.

Hi Steve - this download will certainly point you in the right direction.

Good luck - it's a tricky task! let us know how you get on and share the knowledge.

This site has also got some useful information about needles

Hi, I would like to draw the attention to the following link:
http://www.team.net/www/morgan/tech/tuning.html.
Here it is explained how to use an exhaust monitor to find
the emission content of CO and thus if the fuel mixture is
lean, correct or too rich, at any particular RPM.
In general look into the advice given by Dave Vizard in his books
"How to modify your Mini" and "Tuning the A-series engine"
(the latter: 1999 edition, ISBN 1 85960 620 2)
Regards, HansUwe / Denmark

as HansUwe say if your modifing tuning a mini engine Dave Vizards tuning A series engines is the holy bible.
i've built countless mini race engines using his advice and knowledge from polishing conrods, offset boring blocks, modifing cylinder heads to macining the centre main crank cap and having a billet steel strap made to stop the cap cracking.
he's definatly the jedi master of minis.

As has been said previously get it set up on a rolling road and it will be ok. We bought a 1980 Mini for our son who put on a K+N induction kit, changed the exhaust manifold and exhaust and it ran like a dog. Tried various settings but decided to take it to the fella who checks our race cars pre season. All Tickety Boo after and runs great.
