206 1.6 gearbox tuning?

even if i kept the original 4th and 5th gear? and kept the original final drive? or what if i put a higher 5th gear in? cheers for any info

You can theoretically have any gearing but you can only fit what is available.

to get this answered properly this you would need to specify a car.

i have specified a car lol peugeot 206 1.6 petrol lol not sure about others specifications yet as i am waiting to pass my test. my mate has the car waiting for me lol

Tbh you'd need to talk to somebody that actually tunes Pugs properly (i.e. a specialist). The way in which you'd adjust the ratios on my car is to use a crown wheel and pinion gear set. I'm planning on adjusting my overall ratio from a 3.45 to possibly a 3.60.

What are you trying to achieve with this?

quicker acceleration without needing to do too much engine work, i know the 1.4 and 1.6 share the same box with different gear ratio's. so i'd probably use the 1.4 box and flywheel but use the 1.6 clutch, 4th and 5th gear.

i get what ya mean, just the flywheel would increase accel by a small amount due to it being lighter but i'd lose a bit of low end torque so i'd need a lower 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear to compensate for that torque loss

You'd essentially be increasing the ratio on 3rd to extend it to where it 'meets' 4th. Tbh I very much doubt you'll notice a loss in torque. It's not like 206s have masses of it.

Another option is to strip a bit of weight out. With or without the flywheel upgrade it could help boost the acceleration. I can't help thinking it'll be a lot of work and hassle for not much by altering the gear ratios. You also have to be sure that you know better than Peugeot.

i will be stripping some weight, but as far as interior that will be made lighter where i can, as it needs to be able to fit shopping and 2 kids lol i want to stay away from the higher 5th gear as top speed is not what i'm wanting i'll be happy with factory top speed, but just wanting a quicker car

I can't tell you what gearbox you have. I'm just applying BMW and general tuning methods to your situation.

Jarrus is the Pug man around here so I'd expect him to know.

i've done some googling and found that it can be done but the guy only did it with a taller 5th gear, the gearbox is MA5 box. cheers for any help or info as it's greatly appreciated.
