    Hot 944- FINALLY

I got my 944 delivered this morning at about 8:00 am. MY GOD IT'S FAST!!!! I talked to the builder and he said he drove it enough to get a good start on the break in. His thoughts were drive it like you stole it, so I did, several times. After figuring out the shift timing I took it on...

ECU cuts the turbo in 1st gear at 5700 RPM

I don't know how it would affect the turbo but the idle surging could be a vacuum problem. Start simple and cheap, a vacuum pump is cheap.

    Hot 944 again, again!

Today I received an unsolicited e-mail from my builder. He said the new ECU is now working the way it is suppose to and the car may be shipped out in 3 days. He may be the best 944 wench on the east coast but this probably means 3 to 4 weeks because I am not sure his time line and mine are the...

    Hot 944 again

I appreciate the thoughts guys. With any luck everything will be OK, I've owned several very fast cars but never wrecked any of them. Plus I am probably one of the oldest guys on this site and I didn't get this old by being silly. I can't wait for my first track day. I've raced nearly every...

    fueling a diesel

Gentlemen, I thank you for the info. The only things I knew about a diesel was how to drive one, and all work is done with a chain fall. This was very informative, thank you again.

    fueling a diesel

fueling a diesel re:want some info I didn't know diesels had no throttle. How is it not a throttle it there is a butterfly controlling the amount of air and a fuel system matching the amount of intake air to keep the ratio right for combustion. How are they different.

    Hot 944 again

I am still waiting for my car to be done. We were in Florida 2 weeks ago and stopped by the builders shop and while not ready to send home it was ready to test drive. When he started I told him to build it like he would his own, as part of that he ordered a special ECU set up and it wasn't...

Why is it not a throttle if it has a butterfly that controls air intake and a fuel system that matches the air intake to keep the mixture right? How is it different? :blink1::blink1:

    Europe vs. USA

Thank you gentlemen, the 100 octane may explain alot. The tall guy on Top Gear once called our gas "weak juice", now I get it.

    Europe vs. USA

I was watching a show on BBC America tonight and they were testing mpg enhancers. (they trashed them all) The car was a medium sized Vauxhall 4 door. It got 49.00 mpg. I've seen others that got 50 to 70 mpg. To get this kind of mpg in the USA the car weighs 32 lbs and you push with your foot 1/2...

    Steam cleaning

I owned a company doing this, plus semis and equipment. Wrap wires with plastic wrap, pull ground off the battery, steam gets everywhere, inside electrics also. In engine bay, bubbled paint is gone, stay 6 inches back on good paint and keep the sprayer moving. Metal parts, as close as you want...

    Downforce Basics.

This is a very good thread. One thing it didn't say was, if you install a splitter it must be braced to steel. At high speed they can produce 200 to 300lbs of down force and if it's not braced it can tear off. Can cause big damage under the car.:(

    Rebuilding a 383

Haven't seen anything from you on your 383. Have you started on it yet? Did you check with some others on fitting 440 parts? after I wrote I got thinking; they may have changed from the B block to another series in 65 so the fits might not be as numerous as between the 440 and the B block. Keep...

Sorry about that. That is per kg not per lbs. God, that would be a Veyron with Porsche wheels!

    Hot 944

I've already talked to several guys who told me to watch driving sideways down a straight road. The 84 is already lighter and I'm shooting for 1100kg. That should bring me down to between 2.75 and 3.1 lbs per hp. I may have to put a fat friend under the rear glass for traction.

    Hot 944

I got word today that my 84, 944 will be completed 4/20/13. Around the 1st of May I'll head to Florida to pick it up. Ann will drive the van and I'll break in the 944 on the way home. We've got a tow rig on the van in case we need it, but I'm an optimist, we won't need it. This is an 84, 944...

Neat looking car, looks like it will be a sleeper. What is the engine size and stock hp? What is the potential hp you can make with your build? It's cute but I've never heard of it.

    Using Nitrous on UK roads

How do you lower the compression ratio

Anytime you drop the height of tdc you will increase volume of the combustion chamber, and because you can only suck so much air on the intake stroke, the compression ratio drops.

    Turbo magic

Gentleman, I thank you all for your great information and I will research each and every one, but keeping this in mind, I still have one question. Would any of these suggestions be as much fun as setting up the system I'm talking about, and making it work?

    Rebuilding a 383

I'm sorry i took so long to get back. I had a great reply, hit the wrong button and it all went away, FRUSTRATION!!!!!! so I went away for awhile. Yes the exhaust will bolt up. 383 & 440 are the same block just different bore and stroke. Nearly every thing is interchangeable Including cam and...

    Questions on pre 1985.5 944's

    Questions on pre 1985.5 944's

Pre 85 has really limited computer, not much to do. I'm having an 84 built now and it is expensive but I wanted the fastest thing on the road. When it's done it will eat Ferraris, Astons, Audis, basically anything except the 638hp vettes and cars built bigger and lighter then mine. For more...

    Rebuilding a 383

Howdy, I am also new, but I have some experience with mopar in general and 383 specifically. If your pulling the engine anyway you've got good skills, so check out replacing 383 parts with 440 parts. A cheap donor 440 will take you to 400hp with only cleaning and bolting on. The exhaust manifold...

    Paint design idea

    Turbo magic

I wonder if a small, light, remote turbo could be added to a conventional set up to over come low end turbo lag. Have it light enough to start spooling at around 1500 rpm with 5 to7 psi to produce boost before the main turbo spools up. Now, if this is feasible will the remote need to run at the...
