    Vectra C - Cheap tuning mods - under £100

The 2.2 is a DI petrol engine - it's possible that altering the air intake could lead to problems unless you remap as well.

Why do they do this ???

Stop and go are polar opposites. Why is it so difficult to remain stationary ?? Yet the self same creepers are unable to get on with the job once the lghts are green?

    Vectra C - Cheap tuning mods - under £100

You're not going to get much at all for sub £100. If it was me I'd blow it on a couple of meals out.

Why do they do this ???

Poor clutch control?? Poor brain function???

Why do they do this ???

    They're clinically stupid.

Greetings. Hello and welcome to 'appyland :D

    Hi

Nissan has a habit of building cars that handle superbly.

intercoolers, some more equal than others?

Thanks for reminding me about the delicacy of rads etc. On balance I think I am probably more lucky than skilled when it comes to using pressure washers. If you saw the state of my car you'd understand. If you got inside it you'd be well advised to have your jabs firstly :)

intercoolers, some more equal than others?

Exactly what I meant. I have done this many times with intercoolers and radiators. Very very carefully indeed. Perhaps I've had luck on my side, too. Not many throttle bodies to be found on a diesel engine.

    Daihatsu Charade enthusiast from Manila

Hello to you John. Good evening and welcome to Torque Cars.

intercoolers, some more equal than others?

Diesel engines are especially 'good' at the oil mist intercooler inside coating trick. TCJ is also right about bug remover on the outside. It's also a good idea to use bug remover on the OUTSIDE of the coolant radiator, the AC condenser rad and any engine oil and transmission oil coolers. You...

    Low or hi profile's ?

I am always puzzled why Pirelli's P6000 is still available. It's an early 90's pattern. Pirelli itself has far better tyres available now.

There were 4x4 turbo derivates of both models.

Try the FWD 2.5 V6 models as well. The engine is very nice indeed.

WARNING - Beware of JR Tuning in Kent

Rob Bentley is the stereotypical entrepreneur sans morals. People such as him see no shame in launching and bankrupting a business. Loss of opportunist investor capital is reasonable - people invest in the hope that they will make a profit. It's their risk. With customers' money I see it very...

    Good fun FWD cars

I was thinking of standard tuning really rather than heavily modified. 300bhp in a Corsa would be fun to drive, possibly not for all the right reasons :D

    Good fun FWD cars

Not sure I'd put a Corsa at the very top of my fun to drive list.

    Low or hi profile's ?

Agreed. whether it's 13" metal and 10 inches of sidewall or 22" metal and 1" sidewall the rolling radius is identical.
  20. H

    Low or hi profile's ?

How do you propose that would work? It's easy to set a notional and arbitrary bar. Would that autonomously fix the overall gearing? No.
  21. H

    Low or hi profile's ?

I was thinking of keeping the rolling diameter notionally the same thus not changing overall gearing by more than about 1-2% either way.

    Greetings Gearheads!

Hello and welcome to Torque Cars. Congratulations on obtaining your driving permit. On maintaining and tuning I have this to say: Both are expensive, sadly. The days of cheap car ownership have passed many years ago :) Nice to be picking up some members and friends from your part of the world...

    Low or hi profile's ?

    1. Appearance and (if they're lucky) improved roadholding and handling. They should remember that car makers do know a thing or two about suspension design, of which rims and tyres are an inclusive part. 2. People as in car makers do this as it's generally cheaper than lower and wider...

    XJ8

Different. I'm not great with bodywork though. I think we'd wind up with something that's outlawed on account of it's offensive looks.

    XJ8

I would be tempted - anything to get away from this hideously expensive to run Passat of mine. The only problem is that I need a full size estate car now.

    Rover 3.5 EFI Misfire ?

I did actually mention coil a few days ago. They do fail over time. Even modern systems with a plug-top coil per cylinder fail, possibly more often due to their location right on top of the cylinder head and getting baked. It won't be the timing sensor on the FW otherwise you'd have no As far...

    When do you overtake

You have to get past swiftly and safely. Exceeding the speed limit briefly to complete a safe overtaking move is entirely sensible. Bear in mind that some people will drive at 38mph in a 60 limit. Until you decide to overtake them - they will then accelerate whilst you draw alongside during...

    Rover 3.5 EFI Misfire ?

My '85 year model AR Montego had a distributor purely to send HV via HT leads to the plugs. ignition timing was ECU controlled.

I've driven very very few AWD cars. Nothing memorable comes to mind at all. That might just be the finest accolade for AWD.

What do you think is the best engine

I'd give merit points to BMW's 3.0 Diesel. Not as the best as best is very subjective and thus hard to quantify. BMW is good at engines in general, and the 2993cc straight six diesel is a peach to use. In twin turbo form (badged *35d) it's seriously punchy. I haven't yet managed to get anywhere...

    Rover 3.5 EFI Misfire ?

It's just a MAF. The hot wire or hot film principle is clever as it automatically accounts for pressure and temperature. This misfire is odd though. Is it all cylinders or just one?

    Good fun RWD cars

BMW styling is very predictable. The only one I really like currently is the 6 series Gran Coupe 4 door.
  34. H

    Rover 3.5 EFI Misfire ?

EFi stands for Electronic Fuel injection. It is likely to be a Lucas arrangement using a hot wire anemometer - the Montego 2.0 EFi models used the same metering arrangement. There will be a magnetic reluctance pickup on the flywheel and at least one knock sensor. AR was quite well ahead of its...

Diesel prices may go up as government mulls tax rises

Give it a few years and there will be another outcry about dirty petrol engines. It's an easy way to separate people from their money. Successive governments have recognised the value of propaganda, especially when supported by carefully chosen bits of science whilst other bits are carefully...

What is the best sounding engine you've heard?

OK. Download Audacity (Linux and Windows both supported). Re-sample and export as 128kbps MP3.

What is the best sounding engine you've heard?

What I meant was that a Smartphone mic isn't really going to work. Get hold of a PZM microphone, also known as a boundary microphone and try that.
  38. H

What is the best sounding engine you've heard?

Getting a good recording of engine and exhaust sound is quite difficult. You need more than a smartphone really.
  39. H

    Rover 3.5 EFI Misfire ?

You said it is and I quote : "the factory fitted 3.5 EFI lump". You can't have an ECU only on the air intake. That makes no sense. ECU is fed data from all manner of places.

What is the best sounding engine you've heard?

I would like to add that maybe the best sounding engine for me is one that I can't hear.
