Audi TT owners say hello here!

wheels IMO can make a ride or not. theres lots of options depending on your wallet. but for me being in Pa with poor roads smaller is better with better riding tyres having a decent sidewall that also protects the wheels + bigger is usually heavier costing performance as well as mpgs not to...

Is long life oil really long life

there are a lot of variables with upkeep, where we drive, length of trips + how we drive are but a few. most oils are fake synthetics aka group III highly refined crude where real synthetic PAO + Ester oils last longer + the push especially in USA to use thinner oils shortens drain intervals...

Is long life oil really long life

lubricants have varying amounts of additives as well as various base oils. more additives are said to let a lube do its job correctly longer. then theres REAL synthetics groups IV + V they are TOTALLY clean as they are NOT refined but made-synthesised + last a long time + function better in...

Audi TT owners say hello here!

the 1.8T 225 is a stout engine said to handle up to 400 hp, but its the torque that stresses the engine as well as the clutch + of course a lot depends on how its used + maintained

Audi TT owners say hello here!

300 hp is possible on a stock turbo with mapping, intake + very importantly a hi-flo exhaust with changing the very restrictive downpipe with it. depending on cat requirements as well as emissions a 3" turbo back is optimal but many 3" cats are said not to pass emissions. on the ragtop I love it...

Audi TT owners say hello here!

a little update, got the 3" downpipe in a real PIA on a 225Q! the cat or not bolts to a flange on the downpipe allowing easy switching for offroad, it really makes a difference that looking at the quick response on the boost gauge shows.

Is long life oil really long life

here in the USA as well as most other countries since 1999 group III oils aka severely hydrocracked CRUDE oisl are legally sold as "synthetic" clouding its meaning IMO. manufactures seldom show specs or even tell you what base oils are used but just say buy ours its best. they all want your...

Do aerodynamic wings work on road cars?

generally from reading most wings-spoilers work at speeds most of us will never see!! those who track their cars or drive on the autobahn will get benefits for sure. my 2001 TT has a small "wing" on the very heavy trunk lid, said to have been added to keep the rear planted as the first TT's...

Ceramic exhaust coatings and exhaust wraps

i had jet hot + HPC coated pipes with little longevity, this is a daily driven car, snow, salt, + simple rain, coating peeled in a few years!! 304 stainless on my 2001 jetta-bora 10 years, dull but NO deterioration at trade in time. just search stainless steel, there are many with different...

Ceramic exhaust coatings and exhaust wraps

i have had several name brand ceramic exhaust coating + NONE of them held up on a daily driver in snow + salt winters. problem is the cheap mild steel piping under the coating. wrapping pipes or other parts shortens their life for sure. unless racing for $$$ just get stainless steel, 304 grade...

    No Silencer...

here in the USA a dodge neon was factory built without a silencer, being a turbo car the combination of turbo + the cat converter both act like silencers, sounded good but still legal

    Does oil affect performance

generally unless your using "racing" only oil gains are minute. lighter oils are good as long as they get the job done, example of my 2001 audi TT 225Q, modified to about 300 hp + tq. i was using amsoil 10-30 signature series said to be a PAO base oil, car was using prolly at least a qt in 500...

Is long life oil really long life

oils with a higher TBN-total base number indicate more additives for longer drains but, short driving where not enough heat is created is considered severe service requiring shorter change intervals. changing the filter + topping up can extend service life. engines with more oil capacity are...

Is long life oil really long life

most lifetime fluids mean until the warranty runs out!!! on my purchased new 2001 VW jetta-bora i had free services for 24,000 or 2 yrs, after breakin i asked the dealer to put in my Amsoil bought by me, its a group IV-V oil, they said no, so after they changed it i dumped it upon getting home...

    Does oil affect performance

oil generally will not add power except, oils for racing only. true group IV + V synthetics prolly add a little but actually not noticeable. important differences in oil groups, for instance a group IV like Amsoil 10-30 starts as a 30 wt but meets the 10 wt spec, NO viscosity index improvers at...

    Does oil affect performance

real synthetics that is group IV + V oils are superior by nature, they have NO WAX in them as do the other groups, they are shear stable with little or no additives, being a high natural viscosity that stays that way. because the specs you see are for a finished new oil with additives, specs...

    Does oil affect performance

a little more explicitly group IV + V true synthetics perform best, racing synthetics can gain power but are not for daily driving as the detergents + antioxidents are minimal. in the USA group III hydrocracked mineral oils are labeled "synthetic" since 1999 thanks to Castrol. just read where...

    Oil Brands

castrol-BP were the Bums that screwed up the synthetic classification in 1999 in the USA. we now have Pennzoil GTL tech oil, the specs they give look good but they lack some important ones. its $5 a qt purchased in 5 qt containers here. i use Amsoil's top line oils or Redline, never any issues...

i traded that mistake at almost 200,000 miles and made the same mistake, as you put it, to my lo mile TT. been draggin my feet as i got a 3" downpipe with hi-flo cat to install, that was so easy on my 01 jetta but dropping the subframe intimidates me!!

    Cosworth Turbo Engine Oil

very interesting, surprised there's no mention of Redline oil a quality ester base oil thats costly but not hard to get in USA, they have a variety of street and race oils. without the cleaning agents in oil as race spec one would think an engine would sludge up, what is considered more frequent...

    intake mods

bu gutting, i mean removing the restrictive screens inside them, not sure if naturally aspirated cars have them as the finer screen i believe is to protect the turbo from foreign objects the other is a grate looking item said to be an air straightner, removed them both on both 1.8 turbo'd VAG...

    jag xj40 air flow meter

removing all screens as noted on an old auto speed article is said to remove the most intake restriction, did this on my 01 turbo jetta-bora and most recently purchased 01 audi TT 225Q close to 300 now with chip exhaust and intake improvments

    A world without 4x4 Subarus

subaru automatic tranny cars are more FWD bias as are many others this helps mpg as well but hurts performance, torque split on the manual trans cars was listed at 50-50, depending what you want. i see many smashed subies in the winter, the FALSE security of AWD, even AWD cars should run proper...

    Audi TT, ABS Light

i learned that the MK I cars had guage and display issues, there was a class action suite on the displays, module masters repair them, you remove and install and mail out, car will be down a few days, about $350 or less depending on what you need, big $$$ if you go to a d-stealer for repaip

    Winter Tyres

i like the mich pilot alpen, on all 4 wheels, use the smallest narrow tread setup that fits over your brakes, the cost savings of smaller diameter tires can help pay for the new wheels

    turbo cooling

i was always concerned about the timing belt, so after a long drive i parked and opened the hood. it cools everything better. if your turbo is water cooled and you use a real synthetis oil like amsoil or redline you should be good
