    Air filter change

It's also true that these filters filter best when dirty. I think that filter looks like it's in it's prime, fair enough if you need power then replace it at the cost of having slightly larger particles pass through. I swap mine out every 2 years which is about 15K miles. I never notice a boost...

Timing belt change on a Renault Clio Mk III 1.2 (D4F-722)

Has anyone done one of these? I've ordered the kit with the water pump and should be having a crack by the end of the month (need the car for a while). I'm a bit concerned about getting clearance around the engine to do the work but otherwise seems straight forwards with Haynes manual in hand...

    What constitutes a "good" drive

Many of my mates complain about their ECU telling them to get a good drive in to sort out their DPF AFAIC petrol engines need a work out once in a while too to keep them happy. We just don't get a heads up from our ECU/

    What constitutes a "good" drive

There's a bunch of reasons city driving tends to be bad for cars and motorway miles seem to be milder, even helpful. But what counts as a good drive, protect the DPF, dry the oil and get the engine up to a good working temperature? Is it enough for your oil temp to reach about 50% of the...

Which are the best oil brands to use

Ed's Red did wonders on the mostly minor sludge I had built up. It's pretty much replaced all my lubricating, cleaning and protection needs. Well nearly all my protection and lubrication, the misses said it was starting to burn... Personally I find the smell arousing. Haha after some ebay...

Which are the best oil brands to use

If it was the oil's fault then hope it was by causing a slugey blockage in the filter (which is replaceable) and not else where, where it'll take a while for the detergents and dispersant of the new oil to break down. Most peoples opinion vary on this, but if I'm worried about oil sludges and...

Which are the best oil brands to use

Is there anyway to check a filter after you've taken it off (short of taking an angle grinder to it)? To see how much soot is in there. I'm more worried about using the cheapest filters than the cheapest oils available. I change my oil because I enjoy doing it far before I expect any of the...

Which are the best oil brands to use

Amen to that. I always make sure the oil claims to meet the required spec. But I think that is low hanging fruit for big oil companies. I hope, given the price gap, that they strive to beat them and I expect the difference comes down to long term performance (additives that hang around...

Which are the best oil brands to use

I use whatever oil is cheapest (filter too) but I may use a oil additive detergent before a change. I'm low mileage and change oil about every 6 months, so I figure I'd rather buy £12 a gallon oil and change twice as often as I would with a £24 a gallon oil. I got a 5L of Shell Helix 10w40 of...

    Offside rear coil gone

Pics of the offending rear coil, scary stuff seems to have rusted about 50% into the metal with multiple crack developing in the good metal. https://imgur.com/a/bnuv2

    Offside rear coil gone

The drop link is a rusty mess, that's got to be a plus one for the replace both sides argument. On the other hand a drop link off fleabay is about £5 for a pair rear coils tend to be a bit pricier.

    Offside rear coil gone

Still they'd have the MOT advisory pointing out that it was corroded (on replaced side only) and any visible sign of impending fault would be picked up at service. Although, expecting someone to get a service regularly or at least check it themselves is getting to be a rarity. When I was a kid...

    Stopped by the police

Got pulled over on my way back from France around Maidstone. For a chat as far as I could tell, police men just looked in the car saw the two sleeping girls and asked me about France. It was about 3 am at the time. Don't think I was speeding or anything.

    Offside rear coil gone

What do you guys think, replace in pair or as they snap? My offside rear coil has snapped and I'm going to repair it on it's own. Do you guys think it'll be a bad idea? I don't intend to hold on to the car for very long so my plan was just do this side and see how it goes (no discount for...

    Oil stain/protect wood?

Well I gave it a go but it was pretty hard to work. Read online that diesel can be used as a thinner so I added some paraffin and it seems to be easier to use. In the end I just ended up buying a tub of the proper stuff tho!

    Oil stain/protect wood?

I heard someone mention that they'd used to use old engine oil to stain and protect their shed. I don't know about going anywhere near used engine oil because of all the nastiness, but has anyone used engine oil on wood? My shed is looking a bit worse for wear and I have plenty of unused engine...

Changing the spark plugs on a Renault Clio Campus D4F-722

Swapping out the plugs seems to have worked, well I also chucked in some petrol fuel injector cleaner and no more error codes. I still note some hesitancy under heavy acceleration but I don't seem to accurately recall if this was always a issues :p

Changing the spark plugs on a Renault Clio Campus D4F-722

Just about to change out the old sparkies on my car, since I'm getting a p0302 error (Cyclinder 2 misfire) also also I'm getting "Low air flow error" occasionally. Any advice before I go in? For some reason I can't edit the above post. But I thought I'd add what I've considered so far for future generations. Throttle body icing Not too sure what this is but apparently the symptoms fit very well. I think the throttle is frozen in a state. Muck in the fuel line since the tank...

Hey guys, Just been having a bit of trouble with my 106, this morning it started fine but stalled once to twice and felt a bit rough.
