YB Cosworth engine WHATS NEXT !!

I moved the rebuild of my car to Facebook about 18 months ago I guess. Facebook is much more Focused than Forums where only a small minority are interested in these Mega Powered cars. For anyone who still wants to know how the car is progressing it can be found here...

Best turbo dunp size by a Garrett engineer

3" system was used on my YB at 700bhp & indeed it became the first YB to exceed 200mph in that form. Only went to 3.5" when Power went over 800bhp. I suggests Steves choice is just right for his Spec.

Do you miss the old TopGear team

Will need around 80/100bhp more to add those 6mph. No Aero work just a Ford undertray fitted like the later model Cosworth. The aim is to get my road car to set records. Its fastest Cosworth in the World & Fastest Ford in the UK although the Roush Ford GT has also run a 206mph in that...

Do you miss the old TopGear team

Great day but it was a bit annoying. We had gone armed with enough Power to destroy the Cosworth Topspeed record of 206.08mph BUT it was very wet as the film showed so all the runway was not used & we managed 206.00mph. It was the cars last run as I retired the car after that as I was 60...

Do you miss the old TopGear team

Fast & Loud is great entertainment if you don't take it too serious. Street outlaws is much the same as Fast & Loud made to entertain. Did watch 5th Gear as it was 9000% better than Topgear but bored of that now.

    Does fastest mean best

Fastest can be measured im afraid Best is subjective. Depends what you want the car for. Track cars are just that & a road car cant compete only wallow around on track days thinking they are going fast. Drag is another discipline again road cars cant compete against the stripped out...

Moto GP. A fan since Geoff Duke in the 1950's. Fan of Rossi only Hailwood in the past compares. The way he is going Marquez may well be better than both in years to come.

What car will be worth more in 5 years

RS Ford prices have gone crazy. RS500's now over 100k for the best ones even a 3dr at 40k for a good one. They have gone up 3 fold in the last 5 years. Even a good Saph that bottomed at 3k are now fetching 15/18k. There are not a lot of these cars left most were crashed/broken when they were...

Where do you need acceleration the most

Im guessing 60-160 mph is my territory easily accessible up a slip road on to a motorway. The Koenigsegg 1 that recently set a new UK Topspeed record ran 0-187mph in 12 secs during that run. I wonder if he thinks about his 40-60mph time.

    Your first car mod

When I first started a 1930's Austin 7 was the car of choice of many lads it had 6v electrics & yes they fitted loads of lights to them with much the same result as yourself. The Dynamo was about 50% efficient as an Alternator & that's all there was back then.

    Your first car mod

Well im 71 this month & still working hard on the car. However im nearing the end & this is my last conversion. Ive had a great innings started tinkering with modified cars in the mid 60's & it feels right to let this be my last conversion. Mind you im still 6 months away from completion.

    Your first car mod

Back in mid 60's for me. Had a Austin Healey Sprite Mk 2 which went OK but not that fast. I purchased a Shorrock Supercharger Kit bought second hand for £40 about 2 weeks wages. It transformed the car. My brother was first to suffer my maniac driving, he mentioned it a few months back, the...

    Most embarrasing moment ever

Embarrassing moment this takes some beating. Back in 2003 we were one of the favourites at Totb having a runners up spot the year before. Should old cars be banned or taxed heavily

Mine had an article in a Classic car mag recently so I guess its a Classic now its 27 years old. Its old, polluting & if the Minister of Transport had a ride, it would be banned the following day as he recovered from shock in hospital. Fortunately he don't have a clue how fast or potentially...

Interesting. I can do all those things but found that I started to think differently at about 67 & by the time 70 clicked up I was thinking very differently to when I was 65. What do you think is the best engine

The Cosworth YB engine in '200' block form has great tuning Potential. Originally 205bhp it was producing up to 580bhp in qualification trim in the RS500 touring cars. By the late 1990's the better Road Tuners had surpassed those numbers. By 2004 I was running 690bhp in my road car. We...

intercoolers, some more equal than others?

Its down to how much you are prepared to pay. Core efficiency is what its about not size or looks. I did the research for Spec-R one of the leading after market Supplier. For a cost point of £800 we found bar & plate cores 4/5 times as efficient as those being sold. If we had raised that...

Bad mods for a road car

Developments are changing whats possible from a road car. Only 8 years ago a GT35 pushing say 600bhp was as much Power as would be considered road drivable Power. What is your idea of a fast car

You used the word Fast (not quick) so the main criteria is it will be that. So any car that can exceed 200mph within a mile would be my criteria for a fast car. LAferrari, Porsche 918, McClaren P1 & Lambo Huracan & The Veyron of course are the only 'out of the box' cars that can do that- so...

    Anyone fitted a dry sump
