Why do diesel engines have so much Torque

I know the duck (DUKW). Had to look up "Chicken Automobile". Yep, the DUKW is much better as an amphib!

Why do diesel engines have so much Torque

To be honest, unless society seriously changes, we'll be lucky if there's any humans a millenium from now.

A video games company. They own the "Fallout" franchise, which is based on a 1950s view of the future, after a nuclear war between the US and China. Link: - about 18 mins in to see what I mean. Yes, those cars are nuclear powered...

    saab gone

Just checked it out on Sky News. Chap who bought it wasn't allowed to set up any financing deals to be able to afford to produce any cars. Hopefully this hasn't also affected the parent company Spyker. It won't have helped that sales had fallen about 80% between 2006 and 2009 - which makes me...

Most innovative and original car maker

If you're talking NA, that's fair enough (I assume you are from the context). Otherwise, the actual first *production* 100hp/L car was the Ford Sierra RS Cosworth, at 204hp/2L. I vote Skoda anyway. How else can you explain the capability of their rally cars to perform above their stated...

How many cars have you had

Wasn't impressed by the Pug or Toymota. Ford was ok but nothing to shout about. Likewise, I get to drive various manufacturers through work. Not impressed by Renault. Fiat or Citroen. Really hate the Vauxhall Movanos, whilst the Astras don't hold a candle to the Octavias. Mondeo test car was ok...

    Workshop/garage facilities hire

Funny, I'd been thinking along these lines. Problem is, I'm too lazy to get off my backside and make it work, nor do I have the finances to make it work. Good luck to the people running it.

C'mon, you know BBJ has an anti-Skoda bias a mile wide. I suspect it may be to do with Skoda's sucesses in rallying ;)

That's Ok, I got 91.4 out of mine the other day. Downhill run from Tansley to Matlock - put it in 4th and let it go :D. I have to say, after hills it seems to be stop/start and waiting at traffic lights that ruins economy. I can get anything from 40 to 55mpg on the home run depending on the...

    Insurance Advice

Legal requirement for all drivers to have a minimum of Third Party insurance here in the UK. Pretty much for the fact that if you have an accident, and it's your fault the injured party has some way to get compensation. UtK, have you played around with the name of your job? Sometimes there's...

Don't forget the "fair weather fiends" either - the ones that only drive when it's good weather with long days.

    Oops.

Heard that the mistake was by the guys on the lights. The pace car was supposed to stay out as there was a stalled car on the circuit that posed a hazard.

    skoda vision d

17 years winning it's class in the Round Britain Rally? Yep, I'd class that as successful. Given the dimensions, the Estelle had slightly more stowage space available in the RR configuration - it was a fairly small "boot", closer to what you'd get on a hatchback.

    car derived pickup's

Do you mean a Ute? Not surprised that you're struggling to find them, they've never been popular in the UK.

    Parents driving your car

I'd trust both my parents with it. Myu mother refuses to driver it (too powerful for her). My dad moaned the first time he drove it, he hadn't realised how fast he was going (he has a 1.9 TDi L&K estate)!

What's going to be your next car?

As far as I am aware, both countries have changed to use International Miles (introduced in 1959). The difference is that US gallons are 3.78541178 liters whereas UK gallons are 4.54609188 liters. That is - roughly - a 1.2:1 ratio.

    Main Dealer prices

How much of this came from the change in legislation a few years ago which meant that warranties couldn't be cancelled just because you'd had work done elsewhere? As I recall, that was pretty much aimed at forcing cheaper prices on the main dealers, and it looks to have worked.

    TopGear and the Yeti

Skoda don't produce anywhere near the same volume as Audi, and seem to have one of the highest QC standards of the "mundane" brands in VAG. Indeed, TG mag considers Skoda's build quality to be the equal of Mercedes-Benz in the good old days. Getting back to BigBadJoe's comment much would Skoda...

Going from an Auto back to a manual

Yeah, know of someone who did that whilst overtaking once. Wouldn't have been a problem had the 2 drivers behind not been tailgating. (Aftermath: Policeman came along, 2 drivers behind being abusive, driver of first car told bobby what had happened. Bobby thanked driver 1 for telling truth...

    Your favourite movie car

But would those cars be as popular if all they ever did was run into a gas station and explode (Bullit again)? Besides there were plenty of them. They took orders for a thousand Daytonas alone. Dukes of Hazzard was for the Charger what Italian Job (original, not remake) was for the Mini.

what are the best cars vauxhall has made?

Never had a "real" Vauxhall, but the Vectras and Movanos at work are rubbish. Indeed, the Movanos suffer from chronic understeer - made worse by the fact that they are FWD. Did like the look of the old models from the 80s/90s though.

Which discontinued model should be continued

Grab the parts and build your own! Chap in the local paper built a MkII GTi with the current 2.0TFSi and got a cover on one of the VW mags. Me, I look at the Skoda Estelle. Maybe it wasn't a sexy full up rally car, but in it's class it dominated (more than I'd realised. 17 years in a row!)...

    Your favourite movie car

It's worth adding that doesn't include the ones destroyed when filming the series. General Lee and KITT are probably the most popular anyway, along with Herbie and Chitty. My current favourite is the Mustang GTA used in Bullit.

    Difference between an experienced driver

Well, given events recently, dangerous overtaking is a biggie. There was a 6-person fatality local to me a couple of years ago, and from the sounds of things, another one on Boxing Day 2010. That also accounted for the smash I came across at work a couple of months back, young driver in a hatch...

    Tuning A3 2.0 TDI

Probably best. One of our members, HDIFun had his Peugeot remapped by Celtic Tuning, and he had an excellent experience with them. Exact gains are dependent on the engine. The older PD engine is quoted at 201hp and 311ft-lb whereas the newer CR will generate only 195hp but provide 328lb-ft...

A turbo and remap will be the most efficient use of your cash. Other mods have little effect individually, so you'd be looking at doing 4-5 other mods, plus exhaust and induction for a remap to be meaningful.

    Speed limiting devices

About 5,6 years ago I read an article in Reader's Digest where they examined the future of road safety devices. Best and worst car makers 2010

No one is paid. It's entirely based on the problems reported by folks who have bought those machines. Of course, Toyota/Lexus could be penalised due to the recall for brakes etc. Skoda are one of the most consistent manufacturers when it comes to reliability. If they weren't, then they...
