Hi guys, just bought a 206 Hdi 2.0 (90) and have been searching the internet for a tuning solution. I have seen a few different Plug n Play diesel tuning boxes that range in price from around £100 to £400 or thereabouts.
Has anyone used one of these units and if so are the claims of improved performance and better mpg true?
Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Don't bother. Get it remapped via the OBD2 port. Tuning boxes interfere with sense and control data, which can leave you with a smokey and thirsty car.

My 2.2HDi is remapped from 136 to 192 bhp. It's been in this tune level since April 2006 with no problems. Torque is massive, in gear acceleration like that of a 3.5 litre petrol car and economy about 39mpg.

As said above really. Dont bother with vcheaper piggy back devices or cheaper tuning boxes as they will do more harm than good to your car. But I would imaging that your car wouldn't be really anymore than about £300 to get remapped or superchipped (depending what your ecu is like) and get far better gains from it ;)

Okay chaps, I'll steer clear of the plug n play boxes, I've read a lot on the internet that states remapping is the way to go too, so thanks for the swift replies. Remapping it is then!!

Sorted! Welcome to TorqueCars, keep us posted as to how you get on.;)
Cheers for the welcome Waynne and I will keep ya posted, gonna be about 2 weeks before its done, just gotta get some overtime in to pay for it ........watch this space

Well I have been looking at loads on the internet but am not really that sure yet.
I was kinda hoping if I tell you I am living in Wigan, that someone may be able to suggest or recommend me to somewhere reliable and reputable.
Anyone got any ideas??

Getting mine done at P-Torque in wolverampton, end of feb, heard loads of good things about them. custom code have mobile service, there are loads of remappers out there, but not sure about your area.

Yeah there are loads of people offering this service but its hard to tell from a web add just how good these companies really are.
Dont want to pay a cowboy for a poor job.

Celtic did a stunning job with my 2.2 HDi 136. It has an intercooler, the 2.0 (90) doesn't. If you can find a space to fit some kind of charge cooling device before the remap then do so. It will give far more scope for performance tuning.

Be aware though, that if you remap your car you are taking up some of the slack built into the engine control data to account for poor maintenance and adverse conditions. You really must keep your servicing up to scratch after a performance remap. Also be careful to not use too much of the available power until it's warmed up and stable. And let the thing idle for 2-3 minutes before switching off.

This is all good practice anyway, but with a remap you will increase operating temperatures overall, particularly in the exhaust and turbocharger installation. You don't want to be applying full boost to a cold engine, not switching off a hot one when the turbo housing is glowing deep red if viewed in darkness.

Cheers for the advice Hdi fun, the normal practice procedures I generally undertake anyway, but the higher temps and intercooler etc. are a thing I haven't had much to do with, as all my previous cars have been normally aspirated petrol models.
I am handy with the spanners and have stripped, tuned, rebuilt many a petrol engine, but diesel on the other hand is a new kettle of fish for me.

My "on the tools" days are pretty much over these days as things are much more electronically controlled.

Thanks again for the advice, I'll go figure for a while and see what comes out in the wash.

I'm not a mechanic either. I leave even simple routine servicing to my local specialist. Cars today are far better built than they were even 30 years back.

I have decided to use Celtic Tuning as recommended by Hdi fun to do my remap. They are quoting figures of Bhp to go from 90 to 129 and 155lbft torque to 199lbft torque.

I am still considering the addition of intercooler and inlet manifold from which Celtic tell me they can then improve the Bhp to 155.

Gathering the funds as we speak :)
