Hi All,

New to the forum. Have read many threads on various vehicles but didn't really find what I wanted for my little Fiat 500 Sport. I purchased a 2012 recently with 101hp but starting to wish I had upgraded to the Abarath or even the new 2013 Turbo version. Too late now so I'm looking for so options on getting a little more out of this fun little car. All I've done so far is pick up a K&N Filter and much bigger and louder horn. The horn is a little on the quiet side for me. Any suggestions would really help as there are few performance shops up here in Canada to specialize in the Fiat as its pretty new to Canada.

Cheers:lol:

Greetings and a Warm Welcome to our TorqueCars Forum my Friend! :)

I am unable to help you with your question directly, but hopefully somebody can point you in the right direction for the knowledge that you seek!

Good luck buddy! :)

I'm guessing the North American Fiat 500's may be a little different to the European models, but over here we have the 1.4 16v petrol making 100bhp which is good for 0-60 in 10.2 seconds and 113mph according to Fiat, does that sound like your car?

Apparently there's a couple of supercharger kits available, one from Italtech and the other from JCR Racing Ltd, although I don't know if they'll be a bit pricey and require specialist knowledge to fit and properly tune. There are also exhaust systems available from Supersprint and Janspeed, although you might have to look at importing one of them from somewhere over here, I don't know if they are commercially available overseas.

Demon Tweeks specialise in exporting performance parts worldwide and might be a good bet to have a look at. I've got this year's catalogue somewhere so when I get a chance I'll have a flick through there to see what else might be available, although with a small capacity engine, unless someone like AEM or DC Sports take an interest, there's only so much you can do. If Fiat takes off to the extent Honda did in North America, you might have more luck, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the 500 leads to demand for the Grande Punto :-D

I think that is pretty much the same specs I have on my 1.4 here. I believe the engine is the same just a few emission tweaks make this a different car than the one overseas. So far its a pretty popular little car over here but the options are rather limited since all we have is just the 500 so far but now with three engine options 1.4(101hp), 1.4 turbo(135hp) and the abarath 1.4 bigger turgo(160hp). I've seem some options out there that will take my little engine that could from 101hp to 180hp with a supercharger, new exhaust, and a ton of other stuff and all at the low low cost of about 25k.

I was thinking of the biggest bang for the buck type of options if possible. Couple grand, several smaller options if possible that way the wife won't kill me when she sees the visa.........

Cheers and thanks

Yeah, if you're wanting to keep costs down, you're looking at a decent airbox, stainless exhaust system, maybe a manifold and upgrades to the braking and suspension. I don't know if Forge or Ultra Racing have developed any chassis stiffening parts, so you could look at that too. Also see if any reputable companies do remaps or tuning boxes for it, you won't see a huge increase but it should make a subtle improvement to your driving experience

The problem with using a European supercharger kit on a North American market 500 is that the 500 was heavily modified for the US Market. The structure and engine were heavily revised. The American model doesn't have an intake camshaft. Instead the valves are actuated via electronic solenoids. Fiat markets this as "Multi-Air". It allows them to individually time each valve infinitely. Due to this modification on the head of North American models, there's no telling if the supercharger kit will even fit, not to mention the computer tuning required.

Sounds like you just get the multi air engined versions then. I cant' see why parts from the Abarth model wouldn't fit the 500. Suspension upgrades etc... If you cannot tune the engine, at least make it handle well! I learnt in a Fiat 500, one of the multi air models. They're fairly quick little cars if driven well.

Correct. North American models (Canada, USA, Mexico) exclusively use Multi-air engines. The base 500 has the 101 HP 1.4L Multi-Air (which is what Talmor has). The next step up is the 500 Turbo, a 1.4L Multi-Air turbo with 135 HP and 150 ft-lbs. After that is the Abarth with the 1.4L Multi-Air Turbo, but with 160 HP and 170 ft-lbs.

I'm in the same boat, lovey little Fiat but it's lacking greatly in the performance department. I have ordered the Abarth rear number and diffuser along with dual exhaust. I'm actually bidding on a complete turbo Abarth engine so that I can swap them.

Greetings Slow500 and a Warm Welcome to our TorqueCars Forum my Friend!

Good to have you along with us :)

I am one step ahead but still tying to find all the answers, I have an Abarth engine and getting ready to do a swap. I don't know what I might find but hopefully it will work. its going in a 2012 fiat 500 sport. I have the Abarth wiring also.

OK, so - What the heck is "Multi-Air"? I saw it on my enging cover and I go "How many types of air are available on this planet?" Pretty much Oxygen, Nitrogen, little Carbon Dioxide and you know - pollutants. Is there a switch I can flip to change the car to run on a different atmosphere, like you might have on Saturn? (Or is it computer controlled, and I actually don't have to do anything when I arrive on Saturn...just put in whatever gas they have there)

Thanks Lunchmoney. Didn’t realize it was another word for VVT. I’ve had that on a number of other cars I’ve owned, and you can feel it when it kicks in. I don’t feel it on this car (2013 500). Anybody else?
