40-50bhp off a remap on an n/a 2.0?

I do remember an article I read about these 2.0 litre duratec lumps. With high lift cams, free flowing exhaust and various other work etc etc you should see about 180 - 190bhp. But I cannot remember if the head had work done to it, to produce this power, getting 200 out of them is difficult without loosing torque and drivability. You'll smash the 220bhp with throttle bodies, but even then, Thats almost £3k gone...

I can only quote the rolling road results, the car was reading 180bhp before mods, which I know is unusual but it did. There are always variances on standard cars. The car is now 210 to 220 bhp.

The re-map was not an off the shelf job. It was done by an expert hooking the car up to a pc.

And how exactly do you thing a re-map is normally done......lol, and sorry, but you are not going to get 50bhp from a re-map on a NA car.

What do you mean by whole rear end came from a 10 plate car?

Came from a newer model. I believe there is an 03 ST170 and an 05 model.

I am still struggling to believe that an additional 50bhp came from a re map alone. Once you hit 10 posts, could you please post pictures?

The only thing I can think of is that, when ford were making the RS mk1 and the ST170, there was a concept model released called the ST180 or 190 ( I think ) there were about 100 made. It was a cross between the 170 and RS... MA might be able to provide more solid facts.

The ST170 engine isn't very tuneable. It's had most of the tuning done when it left ford (vvti, variable inlet, 4 2 1 exhaust manifold.)
Cams and vernier setup would get you around 5-10bhp, Full exhaust with a decat maybe 5-8bhp.
They was already tuned from the factory so your not going to see much gain unless you have real deep pockets.

Focus T190, but that was turbocharged.

It's not 210bhp anyways, some of you may remember my mates Mk2 Escort Ghia with the ST170 engine in on bike carbs, exhaust and Omex standalone properly mapped. That made 216bhp on a very accurate rolling road and the engine was only on 26k!

All bushes were transplanted from same car.You guys say that 210 to 220 is not achievable but celica 1.8 t sport hits 190 standard and civic type R hits 200 both n/a. It's had a high lift cam fitted too. Whatever figures people want to throw around, my car is over 200 bhp. I mean I know a standard car with s/h goes for around £2500. I think my price is reasonable & I am open to offers. If someone offers me £4250 I would seriously consider it.

The st 170 was a bit flop to be fair.
They didn't even make 170bhp from the factory. They are closer to 155-160bhp standard.
The usual mods are decat with a full exhaust. Cams and vernier pullies and most go for dreamscience management.
That's a tidy £2k or there about and that's proven to only make 189bhp.
After that it starts to get really expensive.

Yeah and the S2000 makes 240bhp does that mean your Focus makes 240bhp too? How can you compare different engines with different manifolds, exhausts, cams, compression ratios, bore, stroke etc etc and say it must make the same hp because it has the same capacity?

If it has been remapped, why are you claiming 210/220bhp? Surely the remap will give you a precise figure? Or is this just the remapper's sales patter stating, "Oh, a remap will give you 210/220bhp"? 10bhp on a N/A engine is quite a lot.

Have you had it on a rolling road to validate these claims, or are they just estimates? This will be important to a potential buyer.

Yeah, I rememberd a concept and a few lucky people managed to own one.

i think its been mentioned above but the st170 didnt make anywhere near 170bhp as standard, much like clio 172/182 and mgzr160 dont make there quoted power.
i remember many years ago me and my bro put on a rolling road day for some st170 owners and not one of them made over 160bhp

i would try and get the car to a proper dyno and get an accurate reading of what power it has, id honestly say if your making around 170-175 you have done very well
