Hey Mark, thanks for the information, been away for a few weeks so haven't had much chance to reply. And yeah i might look out for a little saturday job at a garage around me so cheers for the tip.

Hallo mate,
Please excuse me for not replying to your question, i read it, meant to deal with it and plain forgot, sorry.
I'll have a look at some of the books we have in the workshop and see what's there that could be useful for you.
I learnt engine building as part of my trade.
I'm sure that there are companies down your way which would be glad to take on someone as a Saturday lad, get out and ask them, that's the only way you'll know for sure.
We have two apprentices who attend the National Motorsport Academy at Silverstone for their courses, they both started as Saturday lads.
Regards, Mark.

hey Bumpkin,
you seem to know a bit about this area, wondering if you recommended any good beginner books specifically covering the basics of tuning? I'm currently reading a performance tuning book and got an engine rebuild guide also to get through at somepoint, but not sure what the best ones to be getting are.
Also, do garages or tuners consider inexperienced people for like part-time work to get experience hands on, or do they only consider those with a course degree?
Thanks for any help mate, alex.
