What do you consider to make a car quick?

Is it the 0-60 time if so what do you expect a quick car to make.

What about the power to weight ratio, again what do you think this should be?

Obviously a Lamborghini is quick (read stupidly fast instead of quick there) but thinking about real world cars that we are likely to own what feels slow and what feel quick to you?

Does the baseline depend on what you currently drive?

For me I think any car that does 0-60 in 8 seconds is suitably quick, anything slower than 9 or 10 seconds feels pretty slow.

I'm sure this thread will be alight with various responses as to how each individual sees this. For me a quick car is one that takes your breath away everytime you are in it. It could be raw power or something small, light and quick off the mark. Power to weight or bhp/ton do also come into play, but on a personal note the noise it makes it a key ingredient.

As for baseline, yes I will go by what I am accustomed to and use that as my benchmark. I wouldn't call my MG particularly quick but with a 0-60 time of approximately 6.5 seconds I'm happy.

For me a quick car would be sub 5 seconds. But as the old saying goes 'speed is nothing without control'. ;)

This thread will prove to be a real argument developer

For me, any car that can do 0-60 in less than 5 seconds or should that be 0-62? someone will correct me very shortly no doubt :) and then a top speed of 180mph plus.

Your right T9 Waynne has dropped the ball. You would normally show a 0-62 mph or 100 kph time.;)

For me it's how much it pins you in the seat when you give it the beans.

I have a 5.6 seconds recorded with the old engine and setup Stamford and I was duly chuffed to pieces with that :)
I comfortably expect to be below 5 seconds now, but by how much is anybody's guess! If I can get 4.5secs or less I will be absolutely delighted, but I have no proper traction control, so not sure what will happen if and when I give it the full beans :sad2:

I'm with Waynne here. We still use MPH and miles in the UK, so 0-60 it still is for me :) However, if the overseas members prefer 0-100KPH that is their perogative.

All acceleration competitions in the UK and USA use 0-60 (AFAIAA).

As stated elsewhere, the definition of quick comes down to personal experience. A quick car for me has to be less than 6. A very quick car less than 5. A seriously quick car less than 4. I'm looking for less than 3 :) :)

Sorry, its like tarrets.

Ill try harder next time!

Although a G-wiz is quicker than my car just now. She is all masked up, getting her nails and hair done. Get her back on Firday!!!

Pictures posted on Friday night then? :)

I'll post the before pictures tonight when I get home, then I'll put the new ones on. I was a bit out of sink Monday morning and was in a rush so only took 3 pictures, but Ill take the exact same 3 and let you guys comment on the work. Hope he does a good job.

I don't define quick cars by 0-60, quarter mile or 30-130 defines a straight line quick car properly imo. There are plenty of cars that can do 0-60 very quickly due to AWD or being very light for example but then suffer afterwards or achieve a low terminal speed on the drag strip.

quick is when you have had a car for two years and it still scares you

I don't know about that. I had my Escort TD for two years, and there was nothing quick about that. But every time I stepped in her I was scared! Will be brakes work? Will she blow up? Will my foot go through the well!!:lol::lol:

But then some cars are built for acceleration like rallycross where top end is seldom used. Those things are mental, not as quick as the old days of Gollop and Schanche, there were quick!

 Russian roulette cars!

Like what exactly?? :amuse:

Only thing that will leave mine for dust is other evo's! Or cars that cost over £100000!

Well in only 3 days time there is a little known Saab residing down south, that maybe a strong contender to do just that :bigsmile:

I think for most of us it's our own cars that are fast, anything slower is slow to us. I guess we all get used to to the power we have and not where this is missing we really notice it in other cars.

I'm still happy behind the wheel of an 8 second to 60 car though but I will probably not overtake anywhere near as much as I would in my own car.

Sounds like a challenge! When you can get to 60 in less than 4, and keep pulling upto 170 then let me know!

And then take that speed into a corner and come out the other side :amazed::amuse:

You want to see my baby now. My PC at home is bust (misses kids downloaded a virus) but I have before and after pics after my paint job. The guy said for another £150 he will cut and wax the whole thing! Ill take him up on that next month! My wheels have come up nice aswell :blink1:

Sounds like quite a beast. Any 1/4 mile data (60ft, 1/8 mile, 1/4 mile and TS) ?

The BS stops when the flag drops! :)

Well the first bit should be no trouble at all, as for the 2nd bit and taking a corner at speed, did not do to bad at Snetterton last time out if I do say so myself

What is it about kids and the things they look at on a PC that seems to attract a virus everytime? :sad2:
Would dearly love to see those pics BBJ - so get your Norton out and repel the virus invader

I really need to upgrade soon, mine is slower than a snail compared to yours:embarrest:

But in MY mind I'm the fastest thing around! :toung: ( a girl can dream right ;) )

My mate ran a 12.2 in his Evo 8 MR FQ340 with about 400bhp (can't remember the exact figures). There are plenty of cars run 12secs or faster about, even FWD street-legal cars are regularily running better times than that these days.

Marvellous MA, there is hope for me yet ;)

People that have seriously quick cars dont usually find the need to tell everyone about it

As someone else said when the BS stops..............

or

No matter how quick you think you are there are always loads quicker .

What's defined as "quick" changes so much as the years go by. Not that long ago 300bhp and above was the preserve of Italian supercars and top of the range luxury saloons. Now there are family hatches coming with it as standard.
