UK Insurances

Hi all.

Hope I dont sound tooo Stupid .

I am new to Tuning/Styling cars in the uk, I am british just lived in Germany most of my life and have tuned in Germany. My question is as I have heard that a mate has been refused insurance as he has modded his car too much.

How much is too much? As I do not want to face the situation that I can not insure my car.

Most car insurers have a set criteria for what you can and can't do to a standard factory vehicle. That's were the specialist insurers like Adrian Flux etc come in. They handle all kinds of high performance modifications to pretty much any car, so you have nothing to worry about when it comes to getting cover for your vehicle.

The answer is to find a mod friendly insurer. Most can be quite picky. Specialists like Chris Nott and Adrian Flux are good bets on heavily modified cars and they often work our cheaper than the standard insurers.

I'm curious, what was too much? Even the chap with the Meteor engine in his Rover SD1 got insurance as did the Audi with 2000bhp!

One thing to consider, choose carefully as some policies do not cover like-for-like parts in the event of crash damage, theft etc. My policy with Adrian Flux covers all mods carried out whereas previous insurers noted the mods but in the event of a claim would replace with standard OE parts, needless to say I changed as soon as the mods become more expensive!

It's also worth noting that the insurance market is a lot smaller for under 25's with a modified car.

Well over 20 years ago for me! When I was under 25 I couldn't get any turbo car insurance until I hit 30! Couldn't get insurance on a mk1 Lotus Cortina either and that was when they were worthless! However I was 23 and got insurance for my HSX Chevette with no problems but couldn't get decent cover for an RS2000!

If you want a check list that you click, and it adds the price to the quote, use Elephant/admiral insurars. I found this verry helpfull. Go through the quote with entering ''no mods'' then get your price. At the end click on alter and add your mods, this way, it will tell you the cost of each individual one.

I'm actually signing a deal with a price comparison site that "cover modified cars" apparently! They also seem to cater for the young driver and fast car drivers so if it is as good as I'm led to believe will be great for our members. I just wonder how modified they count as ok but it should be a good deal so watch this space. Hopefully in a few days time we can go fully live with them on a co-branded comparison site.

That's good going. Provided, of course, that they don't let you down in the unfortunate situation that you have to make a claim.

And me! going on those figures, my own insurance should be about £33.76 Who are these fantastic people?

Mine is sub £300 p/a Fully Comp. with business use as well but my car is bog standard.
