It is too much effort. You need proper spray equipment, a booth to protect the paint from dust. The only things I would attempt to spray on my car are the plastic parts which is something I can do in my garage. Anything bigger it is more cost effective and you get a much better finish to take it to a specialist.

goto agree go for the booth job. the price will vary between garages so fone around, and make sure you see samples of work ( my mechanic lassie got her civic painted pink when she changed the number plates she found that they hadnt removed them and it showed green in the recess.)

how far are you wanting the sprayjob to go? do you just want the outside body done, do you want the engine bay sprayed to match or the ful out job where the whole cars stripped to the bone and fully resprayed

There are often small industrial units run by one man and his dog and these offer terrific value for money. Some of the larger bodyshops use little guys like this when they get too busy.

Ring round for quotes, prices will vary wildly £500-£2500. If you do a lot of prep, removing mirrors/glass etc it will be cheaper.

it will also depend on what "black" paint you want

it sounds stupid but if your wanting a black from something like BMW or merc it will be more ££££ than if you wanted the black sitting at the back of the painters shop

like waynne said phone around and if you get a good price ask to see examples as many as problems as well as asking other people what they thought of them

This is seriously not a DIY job, unless off course you are a professional. You need the right skills/experience and equipment to pull off a complete re-spray successfully, its a very expensive procedure unless you can call in a few favors. Its definitely something you don't wanna try yourself because so many things can do wrong.

Ive had my car resprayed and it is a DIY job, but for the actual respray let an expert with the proper booth and tools do it, otherwise if you want to save some money, but NOT time prepare the car yourself by removing all the bumpers, lights, locks, mirrors, etc and sand the car down to bare metal if you want it to be a good job. Just remember that preping a car for a respray does take A LOT of time.
