Angry Traffic calming - doesn't!

Traffic calming! Those little islands, roundabouts, chicanes and narrow bit are supposed to calm traffic but they make me mad. I think a lot of authorities confuse traffic calming with causing congestions.

Why O Why do they insist on narrowing the exit of 2 lane roads into 1 lane where everyone has to wait their turn when before the left turners could filter off left and everything kept flowing nicely.

Causing congestion is not calming, it causes pollution and lots of other problems.

Do you agree? What traffic calming winds you up the most? The silly chicanes or the speed hump? Is there a benefit to traffic calming methods?

its just stupid like you say, one lane for vehicles that may have to turn left or right or forward does my head in, cos then you cant go until they have gone, it also annoys me when people dont go in the box section when they are turning off, so if there is no light filter to turn they sit there and wait again!

i think speed humps in 30 do my head in the most, i have them going up my road and they are a ball ache, doesnt help that they are bigger than the one on the 20mph area, you can sail over them at 50 and feel nothing!

the idea of traffic calming isnt to calm the driver down. its to slow down the traffic

The government seem to actively want to cause congestion and then they can point at us all getting caught in their bottlenecks and say "we need to charge them more tax, look at how they're jamming up the road". Bunch of fascists.

Most of the "traffic calming" measures get on my nerves.

The chicanes that only let one car through at a time, the speed bumps in 30 limits that are impossible to do 30mph over (the people who slow down to about 3mph to go over them in their big 4x4s are even worse), and all those sorts of things.

speed bumps in residential areas/schools I can see the benfit to slow people down - example I would actually like them in a road that feeds my road (family estate) as there are parked cars on both sides on a bendy road with kids playing on both sides and people still go well over 30 when in reality its only really safe to do say 25mph. Yes I know they are a ball acher and not good for suspension but they are needed in certain circumstances.
Waste of paint roundabouts and narrowing of junctions is just ludicrous, helping the traffic flow not hindering it is the idea isnt it?
