Default Snow sock

Well since it's winter - with the snow on it's way, i've been thinking about getting some snow socks..

Has anyone used them, and are they any good

Cheers

For the car or your feet?

If for your feet, the snow chain types that clip over your shoes work very well. Alternatively, woollen socks work well when pulled over your shoes.

Saab do a set for the front wheels that cost £50. Apparently they work quite well and are very easy to fit. You only put them on when your stuck in snow and you keep them on only until you are free.

I believe you can leave them on while there is snow on the ground and they aid in traction and breaking.

BUT they will not be the same as a 4x4 and they will not make you stop fast. AND they are meant to be disposible. So at £50 a pop, I wouldn't bother. Maybe keep a set in the boot for emergancy's1

As I found out last year, I have no problems in the snow with traction. Braking is still a problem.

Shame I'm going to miss all the fun this year

When I got stuck in the snow last year I used my car mats under the front wheels to get traction to get going to a flat surface.

Last year I say some idiot in a car park clear a path for his car to go. (this sentence seems a little harsh but...)

There was only about 2inches of snow, and I think he had been watching Ray Meers extreem servival, and wanted to be stuck, and he was digging him self out with one of them colapsable spades. So he had obviously just bought one, and though it was the appropriate time to use it! I just bombed past tooting the horn. He was in no way stuck, just a plonker who wanted to use his gadjets!!

Its ok using common sence, but this guy was TOO prepeared.
