Rumour or Fact?

I'm afraid i dont remember this in the highway code book (and cant find mine to check!).
I was told today, that by law, we are only required to give way to Ambulances with flashing blue lights, we do NOT need to give way to fire engines or police cars!!!!
Can anyone confirm?

I would usually ignore these types of statements, but the guy that said it DOESNT like to be wrong and is not a practical joke type of person.

I don't know whether it's against the law but if your house was burning down you would want people to give way to the fire engine so that they could get to your house faster!

If it is an official vehicle with flashing blue lights and/or a siren you must give way.

I always do give way. I thought if you didnt you could get charged with obstruction of some sort.
