Reasons TO buy a new car?

Warranty.
Noone elses arse on your seat.
You can get some excellent deals on run out models.
If you are going to keep it for a long time then depreciation is not as huge an issue.
It's just NICE to do it at least once in your life.

Such a good thought there I've made this a new thread so we can discuss the merits of buying a new car.

It does mean you can choose colour, seats, trim and gadgets. (Buying off the forecourt is a bit of a con if those decisions have been made for you!)

its 100 percent your own car
therefore you know everybit of history, good and bad on car
+ you can personalise it to ur choice rather than someone elses
you know all limitations to the car
and everything is brand new

wardyc - think your last line is a moot point. Cars are left lying in fields, on tarmac strips etc... for years. I remember about 15yrs ago my dad bought a brand new escort, and immediately when he brought it home he put it up on the ramps - rust on both sills!!!!
I went back and was changed no hastle but if he hadnt checked......

so, car maybe "brand new" but this is not the same as just produced and may already have problems with it.

Not to be negative, i'd love a new car but....

That's a case of knowing your manufacturer.

One of the reasons I bought my current car new was I'm very confident in the quality of the brand (so far, only problem has been a dodgy catch on the filler flap that has been replaced) and I know that they don't produce them out the wazoo and leave them lying around (as an LE, was supposed to be one per dealership - I ordered mine before they'd got that far!).
