Smile Hire cars and courtesy cars

Has anyone had a decent hire or courtesy car?

I had a real dog of a 207 Diesel in France that had only done a couple of hundred miles but felt really wallowy and underpowered.

In Madiera we hired a 1.4 Megane which I was quite pleased with although it still had some electrical faults and wierd warning lights.

Then we borrowed a Micra to drive up and get a car from Horsham, this was a 1.0 and really felt under powered on the motorway but it was quite fun to drive.

My sister has a Clio Cup edition 182. When it went to the garage they dropped her off a brand new Megane Cab 2 litre 16v. It was well smart. And it was rapid.....

I rented a Vectra SRi 1.8 in September and it was CRAP.

Painfully slow and very noisy. Vauxhall claim 140bhp. Felt like about half that to me.

Hire cars being mainly in the states:
  • Dodge Caravan-not bad but sluggish for V6, similar to the Voyager.
  • Mercury Mountaineer SUV, nice.
  • Mustang, very nice indeed.
  • Ford Escape SUV, again nice.
Courtesy cars, Nissan Micra, total tosh!

The Current Micra is very pleasant in dCi 82 tune. The petrols (apart from the 1.6) are gutless and thrashy
