Default Euro plates

I was surfing the net looking at different cars, mod's etc and seen a few with Euro style plates.

There were a few UK cars with the Euro style plates and I was wondering if it's legal over here not to have standard UK plates? Or are they just for show?

I think they look pretty kool and wouldn't mind having them but as I already seem to be a traffic cop magnet I'd like to know if they are in fact legal.

Excuse me if this is a stupid question.

I presume you mean the plates with the GB badge to the left of them. I had this style on my Rover and had no problems at all with the law. Many reputable firms sell them - (the ones that refuse to do the misspacing of letters and funny font styles) so I guess they are legal.

I think your question is a good one though because technically a number plate should only show the registration of the vehicle - any other small lettering could be deemed to be illegal.
