Default EGR Valve

once more i have to mention it.

it really is getting on my chesticles, the amount of times i've been back to the dealer i'm losing the will to live.

halfway to skeg it seized up, engine light on and back to square one. (at least now the engine light works)

so i have decided to replace it with a new valve. its going to cost me some cash but its had 3 in from monkeyboy already and i ain't chancing it again.

does anyone have any recommendations? should i punish him?

Can you fiddle with the actuators and bypass it? You might even get a decent re-map specialist to cripple it at the ECU.

Lots of folks claim to do this and it removes the risk of further failures.

EGR valves are questionable things - to my mind there's no point in having a device that cuts emissions by a gram or two over its [short] life and then making loads of greenhouse gas in the factory that has to keep making replacement ones.

a very valid point, i might just dismantle it and soak it in wd 40

i think the rod on the valve is stuck open. bit of lube might help it along.

by the way i've been accepted into uni!

Bloody well done by you. Congratulations are in order. Where are you off to, and, what's the subject you're proposing to study?

Good point about the EGR, soak the think in WD40 and see if that helps. You might want to try using a couple of tanks of top notch fuel with a bit of 'cleansing' additive. Redex has been discussed recently. Don't ignore Forte's products - they can fix all manner of things for ten to fifteen quid.

Rgds,

Paul.

Wow! Nice to see someone finally taking up a worthwhile degree course.

Naturally, I hope you're responsible enough to ensure you don't neglect the important aspect of life whilst studying at university.

By way of example:

smokin' ;

drinkin' ;

shaggin' ;

soft drugs (optional).

Cheers,

Regards,

Paul Anderson.
