Customisation shop

Me and a few of my friends have been thinking about opening a tuning shop, wich would than be the first and only tuning shop in Iceland that does more than raising jeeps up to higher tire sizes. We were thinking about starting small, like buying one car, do that and use that as an advertisement and than of course to try to build it up. Many of my friends are mecanics and I will be starting to learn computer engeneering in 2 years and I allready know alot about electronics and have worked a lot around cars.

So I was thinking if anyone here that has any experyance of anything like this and do you have any advise for us.

If this happens we would try to get deal with a company abroad for parts. I am not shure it will happen but I would like to get some advise. There wouldn't be much of a competition on the marked wich means that we could get all the big costumers

So something anyone could say about this?

if theres no other tuning shops in iceland then at least youve got a high chance of sucess. even if you start super simple as a basic mod shop sourcing and fitting parts, as well as the normal fit as big tyres as poss to keep the money flowing in. you should do ok

When starting a business like this it is very easy to start doing everything as cheaply as possible. Then you suddenly realise that you are losing money. You need to have a thorough grasp of the time involved in each job and charge sufficient money to cover the cost of the job. You need to include the hours on the phone ordering and chasing up parts.

At first you might need a sideline to keep the money rolling in. Tyres is a good option - then as the modification of cars side of the business expands you can specialise in that.

ok, thanks, these tips are helpful and I just hope that we can hold that going on when we get to it to opening it...

What worries me most about this is that we don't get enough costumers... This is an expensive buissniss and there isn't much of a tradition for this whole tuning scene here in Iceland. We would of course have to get contracts with some of the big tuning shops and manufacturers in USA, UK and germany but the tolls you get on the products you have to pay when you bring them to the country is so high that it will unfortinatly not something that everyone could afford and than of course would it probably take long to get the parts here because it would probably cost to much to have this all on stock, expecially in the beginning...
