Default Brembo Brakes

Looking to upgrade my brakes to the 312mm setup that is fitted to the anniversary golf and tt with the same 180 engine.

how many people have used the the brembo sports discs along with standard pads ? Not the full upgrade sport package.

reason im asking is Brembo are well known for there setups and found a front set for £200. other brands were coming in at £160-180 a pair and i would rather pay for a better brand when it comes to brakes

The big advantage with the Brembos is the way they handle the heat. They are less likely to warp and wear less than other discs. Why use the standard pads? Have a look at Pagid pads which have a supreme bite. I think it is worth paying a little extra. You going to do anything with the rears? What about moving your existing front disks to the rear?

THe problem with fitting front discs to the back is that the parking brake mechanism has to be accomodated. You'd also quite possibly have so much excess brake force at the back that they'd be into the ABS before the front are even working fully.

If you adjust the F/R brake distribution the the oversize rear brakes often sieze up due to very light usage.

I was looking at upgrading my brakes as soon as my new rims arrive. I was looking at the complete set apart from the caliper (which is planned to be Integra Type R calipers). I agree that when upgrading the brakes you should be willing to pay for quality.

How easy is the conversion from drums to discs and pads?

prince the conversion involves, i think, doing the same as upgrading to larger discs. need calipers with handbrake attachment discs and adjustments to the brake bias. not sure about the master cylinder. but i think youll need the one of the type R anyway for the front brakes.

the pads that are on look like they were changed at the last service, so they might be changed at a future date. As they are also the same pads that are used on the 312mm discs. so wasnt looking at changing them. means id just have to bed the discs in. not changing the rears might just upgrade then when they satart to show wear

just need to get carriers for the calipers 1st then look into discs OEM ones will cost me around £150 and thats an online supplier dont know how much that will be from the dealers themselves

just seemed stupid that when the golf got the 180 engine it got the bigger brakes yet the bora

Cheers mate. I've only got £1500 to work with at the moment so I'll have to wait to do the conversion.
