Angry Breakdown horror stories

Lets hear your horror stories from breaking down in a car.

It always seems to happen on really busy roads and at very incovenient times.

I guess I've been quite lucky and have usually been close to home. I did have a clutch problem on holiday that resulted in a clutchless drive home for 400 odd miles including a stint on the M25 and a stop for petrol! Boy was I glad to get home that day.

No breakdowns so far in my 2 year history! Now I drive a Honda so hopefully it'll never happen! I'm quite interested to hear everyone else's stories though!

once, on a car i was paid to drive from great lakes to cali, i had it through a piston through the block. I was about 80 miles away from the nearest town and that wasn't really more than a gas station with a tow truck. took me about 4 hours to get the thing towed to a dealership that could fix it and lucky for my the owner paid all the costs.

Had the lead from the coil come off in the prelude, whist going round a roundabout at rush hour.
not nice, half an hour of hunting to find out what was wrong with it

Had a broken hydrolic steering on an SAR practice way up in the Icelandic highlands. Hours away from phone connections and civilisation. It may not sound so bad and it isn't but it is really hard to drive a fully loaded Land Rover on 44" wheels without power steering. I've run out of petrol on the highway but we could get my dad's friend to bring petrol to us

I remember having to tow my mums AX off the M3 once, she ran out of water and ceased the engine. Luckily the junction was only 100 yards away.

She thought she was in the AA but my dad had taken her off the policy and put my sisters name on instead without telling her!!!
