Default blueprinting

can anybody tell me what blueprinting the block does ave seen a few tuning companies offer it and lambos done it to the murcielago's engine to get an extra 10 ponies for the limited reventon

if they can only get 10hp from a 6.4ltr itll be nearly worthless on smaller engines, just wanted to know what it did

cheers

Blueprinting is a term for producing an engine to nearly zero tolerance. Bearing surfaces are truly round, for example.

Mass produced engines and gearboxes have allowed errors in dimensions in order to keep costs to a sensible minimum.

For example, a Nissan SR20DE petrol unit is said to deliver 150bhp from the factory. A blueprint build of the same engine can be tuned to deliver over 190bhp (as it is in SR20ZE design, Japan only) as a result of the very tight manufacturing tolerances.

It's all about physics, reciprocating masses of metal are what engines are all about. Better balance means more power and torque and higher rev limits.

It also means you raise the redline of the engine so you are increasing the power band and it makes the engine more reliable.

There is an article that covers this on the main site which I added a week or 2 ago:-

Don't look at the headline power gain - with other Modifications it means you can go silly power wise without worrying too much about blowing the thing up.

Basically, it means building the engine the the exact specification as stated on the designers plans. The printing process in the old days meant that the plans were white on a blue background, hence the term
