| Being stopped by the police. How many times have you been stopped by the police and what was it for?
Any tips to pass on?
I got stopped once only for driving round buckingham palace 4 times during a security alert! I was lost They were very nice and a biker cop escorted me in the direction I needed to go in as his shift was ending.

| Re: Being stopped by the police. I used to get stopped all the time in my 'chav' cars - fiestas, escorts, novas, etc. advice - dont be cheeky to them - and if your being a tit and doing dangerous stuff, you deserve a ticket - so just accept it.
Never been stopped in any of the 750's even though one of them is Black - with limo tints - big wheels - and crystal lights all round.
I can only assume that they are more interested in the younger boys, or the chavvy cars.
If i was a tit with 65bhp, imagine what I could be like with 300 in a RWD. That said I keep my ASC on all the time as the car is just waaaaaay to powerful to drive down the lanes to my house without it. When its raining just touching the pedal can cause it to lose traction
And the one time i did have it turn off i lost it in a big way - just as the old bill were doing their rounds - he just wagged his finger at me and drove off. |

| Re: Being stopped by the police. If you know you're guilty and they have evidence then be very polite but don't actually admit to anything. You might well get off with a roadside b****ckin*. I escape with one of these having been stopped for driving at 122mph.
If you know you're innocent then don't hesitate to make this clear. Still, don't wind 'em up needlessly. The Police really have no interest in reporting you for something that you haven't done. They're buried with paperwork when they report someone who has committed an offence. |

| Re: Being stopped by the police. Used to get stopped so often in my Elan when I was a LOT younger that I started pulling over as soon as I saw a police car behind me. When asked why I had stopped I explained that I was so used to being pulled that it was easier and quicker to simply stop. Worked very well as it put them on the back foot My theory was that they wouldn't expect anyone with a guilty conscience to stop voluntarily....
Treat them as you would want to be treated.
However, I was told by a traffic cop that they have to decide whether they are going to book you or just give you a warning BEFORE they get out of their car. So, in theory, what you say shouldn't make any difference, but I wouldn't suggest testing it! He did say that sometimes it was very dificult to stay with the original decision to give a warning when confronted with a complete t*t. Some, especially these days, may well be swayed by your behaviour.

| Re: Being stopped by the police. The two officers that pulled me for 122mph were curious to know what I'd done to my diesel 406 that they had a fair job catching up in a 3.2 V6 Omega.
All in all, apart from the initial fear that I might have my license revoked for some months the experience was quite pleasant really. There was no sarcasm or rudeness on either sides' part. |

That probably is the case if they're on a particular operation to stop and report speeding drivers then they almost certainly will do so. I think in my situation they were not on a 'speeding' mission but clearly couldn't overlook three figure speeds regardless of what else they're up to. I view this as eminently sensible policing. |

I was stopped once. I was driving through town centre late one night in my old Corsa, came off a roundabout then put my foot down...then the police turned up behind me! I slowed down, but wasn't stopped straightaway. When I finally was pulled over I was only asked my name and where I was heading. Obviously, he'd already checked my details so there was no need to check everything. |

This was, apparently, standard procedure in SE London and Kent back in my day. The copper shouldn't be swayed by the driver's reaction, personality or length of skirt! Luckily for women, they often were Probably not so much these days as there are a lot more female cops.... but then again.......... .

| Re: Being stopped by the police. I came over a bridge nearby my house and down the other side was a sniping copper with a laser gun, bright silly hat, and no car.
Okay, doing 45 over a bridge sounds dangerous but, oh well. I was going to work, the irony being I got a 60 quid fine and 3 points, so everything I did at work was thusly utterly pointless.
No bother, learn from the mistake, don't get caught.
Guy was nice enough just, bit stupid, he was like "Oh we're looking for some burglars car in the area...."
Bull. Was looking for me in my little old Civic doing too fast for the crap remolded tyres, and lacking of ABS brakes.
The Golf would stop in an instant. |

| Re: Being stopped by the police. Bin stopped quite a few times for
Driving without due care and attention (1)
Dangerous driving (1)
No seatbelt, £30 fine (2)
Driving while suspended (2)
No insurance (2)
No tax (1)
No rear window ! (1)
When i got pulled for driving while suspended twice, it was within 2 weeks of each other, both times it was in my friends car and they both got impounded
Points;
I was doing 115mph on motorway, in and out of cars and shot passed a CID police Vectra, they followed me n got backup to pull me, dint get me in court till bout 8 month later, when they did i tried blaggin it to them, dint work tho, they suspended me n give me 7 points
When i got caught drivin while suspended twice they blasted me with 14 points on top of my 7.
TOATAL 21. When my ban is up (september 25th) i av to take my test again
OH YEAH, if you get stopped by traffic police, do not try blaggin ur identity, wen i giv em my name n adress they pulled out a portible fingerprint divice to see if i was lying.
BY THE WAY IM NOT TRYIN 2 ACT CLEVER, I REGRET MY DRIVING HISTORY....BUT BOYS WILL BE BOYS
Learnt my lesson now |

| Re: Being stopped by the police. Never been stopped and I hope it will stay like that fore at least some time. Have been stopped in a boat by the coast guard asking for a licence to drive that but since it is under 6 meters(19 feet) I don't need a licence. I would have got away if I had wanted to, the guy who ownes the boat acted like he didn't see him and hammered it and they couldn't catch up to him but since I was wearing a jacked marked to the Dalvík SAR team I decided to stop so I wouldn't get suspended from the team.
