tjw2007 has a spectacular aura about
Question '08 Reg effect on old cars

Just wondering if anyone can give me an idea of when prices will start to drop on used cars, now that the new reg's are out. The car I'm looking to get, according to the Parkers website should have depreciated by quite a lot in it's first year (as I'm sure most of them do), but does this mean that a car with an '07 plate will start dropping dramatically in price from now on?

Cheers.

People normally hang on to their new cars until year 3 when the MOT is due. You are right though that the price drops when a new reg is issued - in reality it takes a bit of effort to find one. (depreciation in the first 3 years is around 50% of the cars value !)

best idea i was told was to go to the garages just before the new reg arrives, especially if its a new model as well, and look for the massive discounts as the dealers want to get rid of the older ones
