Thinking of upgrading the door speakers. I quite like the fli products, great sound at affordable prices. Just wondering what the difference between component speakers and coax speakers, and which is more suitable for this use. Thanks.

coax speakers have the tweeter, for the higher frequencies, installed on the main speaker. think 6x9s

component speakers - the speaker wiring goes to a x-over 1st then onto separate tweeter and main speakers. this allows the tweeter to be placed up higher to give a better sound direction as the higher frequencies can be heard where there coming from while the lower bass are just heard - if set up properly and not just boom boom boom

Well my car already has the separate tweeters like you said, so you think the component speakers will be right? Should i upgrade the tweeters too?

Sorry to resurect an ageing thread but iv only just read it.

Sounds like you've had a whale of a time! There's alot to learn when it comes to audio installs and every manufacturer does it completely differently just to keep you on your toes.

How'd it go with the door speakers? What did you end up with?

Not got any yet. Raising some funds before i spend anymore money on my car. Having a bit of trouble with sizes too. My speaker measures 6" but most aftermarket speakers are 6.5" Will these still fit?

Do the speakers mount into a plastic ring? If they do then you can either buy a set of larger diameter mounting ring or you can enlarge the existing rings with a dremel.

Check you have sufficient depth to maount larger magnets too. You don't want to find the windows hit them.

Keep us posted.

I'll check it out tomorrow. If they don't fit where the standards do i'll mount them on the plastic trim.
