Noisy rearview

Hey guys, I have a problem. Whenever I listen to music my subwoofer causes the rear view mirror to shake; it makes an awful noise. Whenever I hold the mirror with my hand the noise stops. Does anyone have any experience with fixing this? Thanks for the help.

Stick a bit of Blu-tack on it.

I did, but mine was actually the courtesy light cluster. Took it off and packed it out with some door draught excluder should have thought of blu tack

I'd just take it off, they're never as good once you've fixed them anyway, you'll be doing it on a regular basis from then on.

I drove my old Escort through 4 MOT's with no rear view mirror and never had any problems, it actually forces you to use the side mirrors more which are more useful anyway, Luton vans and lorries don't have them so why not?

I know lots of vehicles aren't thus fitted but I do prefer to have the interior mirror as well as the others. On the odd occasion I have to drive something large I do miss the interior mirror. Mine's fixed to the roof of the car because it also houses the rain sensor and auto dimming mirror electronics (Peugeot was the same). This is all too heavy to hang from a sticky pad on the glass so hopefully I'll stay in place.

I understand your point and agree it is best to keep it where possible, the one in my accord is the same, it's attached to a big console housing the interior lights amongst other things, my thinking is if it is attached by a sticky pad, now it has come loose or come off entirely they never stick back on properly and usually come off again while you're driving. I used to have a mk3 Vauxhall Cavalier (not a chevy) as well, I tried to stick that one back on and cracked the windscreen from the inside, stupid boy!

I had a Montego so I, too, know the woes of falling off mirrors. And other bits, alternators etc

If you get a sticky pad from Autoglass and thoroughly clean both surfaces first it should stay put for a few more years. Unless. that is, you have a Montego.

TBH I was under the impression that it was the mirror itself where it attaches to the mounting that was rattling not where it sticks to the window.

If the subs are good it'll be the entire windscreen

Just leave the mirror on the passenger seat and pick it up with your left hand for the occasional look out the back

Hehe my Primera was like that.
Had to stick blu-tack on alsorts
Although tbh after I installed the twin 12 inch subs with the mono block amp and tweeters I never heard anymore rattles. Just pure Bass.
Windows and body panels used to shake due to the Bass.

But knowing you it's likely there was about 20,000dB gain below 100Hz. Bet your car was clean though, all the dirt would've fallen off

What is it with you people and excessive bass? Too much bass ruins a good song and disguises a bad one, so you must all be listening to cr*p music

You can never have too much bass.

In my opinion a sub allows you to hear deep notes that ordinary speakers cannot give you. Thus enhancing the sound quality. It also leaves your mid range speakers to get on with the job of putting out mid range frequencies so you have a clearer sound and less distortion and high volume.
