Default exhaust

I have a crazy idea but I intend to install a mic near the exhaust and then amplify the exhaust sound in the car.
If I want I can enjoy the powerfull V8 sound inside the car and if my wife is in the car, i can just shut down the system for a smooth ride.
Does anybody have a suggestion on what preamplifier, amplifier, speakers or mic I should use for this application?

best regards

Ive never heard of that before - you are a revolutionary thinker . I reckon that the exhaust will need to go out beyond the exhaust to pick up the best sounds or near the engine itself.

Default exhaust

Well
the problem is to find a mic that is waterresistent I Guess and one that can handle very low frequencies. It most only pic up the sound of the exhaust. I guess the same goes for the speakers. I need a simple but quality mono amplifier. Somebody any suggestions on the HIFI part of the project?

best regards

Default its a Cool idea,, but Trust me, your wasting your time.

Stop wasting your time with trying to ICE your way through it. You'll just end up blowing yr cash.

What were you gonna do, ONLY listen to the exaust with No music.

i'd recomend looking into getting an exaust built by a specialist, with a valve that can be opened (by a switch) which will open the exaust up fully when you wanna hear the sound.
(much like whats built into the the Sport button on Porsches and other perfomances cars). It is a lot more feasible, & will earn lots of respect.

This will can also increase your power at the low end (more backpressure) an at the top end (less back pressure), depending on whether the valve is part open or fully open .

Not to mention, the fact that the sound wil come from where its supposed to.

By the way
Have you heard of Anti-sound, i remember seeing something on the telly about a new development that used a mic and a realtime processor to produce the exact opposite soundwave to completely cancel out the sound of the engine. The gizmo also had other settings that enabled the car to sound like a V8, V12, ferrari etc.

Actually, this technology is going to be in our cars VERY soon, as stricter Emmissions regulations are coming about, and manufacturerers are gonna shed Kilos of weight by removing sound deadening, and empoying this technology instead. I read that in AutoExpress a 2-3 weeks ago.

This will probably lead to Silent Cars on the motorway, as these systems can also remove road noise.

will need a bass mic or drum bass mic and place it near the mainfold or in side the rear bumper near the back box. mic amp are cheap as chips , have a look in mapin's (www.maplin.co.uk).

emm back-pressure is bad for low end power , and the engine will have to push harder to expel the gas. if the valve is closed to much! , yes every engine need sum back pressure , other wise you will lose all low in power. do your research before saying thing that are not ture. source "http://www.torquecars.com/tuning/sports-exhausts.php"
