Default my intro

Hi all, new here
just spent out on a few goodies for my Honda Accord, dont get all excited its just a daily, infact its parked most days as i use public transport to get to and from work, i have a 'toy' car for shows and sun, a Buick Regal that i made into a Lowrider (4 pump, 6 batt, Daytons etc etc etc), the Honda is slammed on 18" and a little audio, nothing special, but plan to play with the 'odd' engine it has.

I do all my own stunts too! .

Hi there unityjon welcome to TorqueCars its good to have you along. It sounds like a good daily driver though.

The Regal sounds like fun. Please post up some pics in the gallery when you get to 10 posts. I'm planning an article on lowriders on the main site so tell us all about it.

i'll try linking instead of trying to post my own pics...

built by myself from a rot box

If you'd like to read up on just whats been done to the buick feel free to follow its build up thread on my club forum, i'll drop you in where the pics start... http://www.unitylowriderforum.co.uk/...sd=a&start=105

Please note this is not the car i joined this forum for, but i'll happily bore you to tears about it. The honda is very boring in comparison, perhaps i'll post a pic of that after this weekend when it should look a little healthier!

I've been lowriding for 11years and read so much inaccurate crap about them. don't hesitate to ask questions about hydraulics or air.

Please bore away. We don't see enough of lowriders over here. How high does your hydro go then? It looks massive!

it has 14" rams in the back and 8" in the front, it hops a little but thats not what its built for, it has T-tops in the roof so i have wrapped the chassis in 5mm steel plate on all four sides for added rigidity and it does front back side to side and three wheel.

the hydaulics..

Its been a passion of mine for many years now.

This one is really nice, I have been thinking about hydraulics or air for smaller things compared to el. I am now thinking mostly about using electronic motors for it since I know how to work those but it would be great to get some insight on the hydraulics

Am I right in saying hydros are better than air? Its hydros that can jump the car isn't it?

Is the bank of batteries for show use where you need a lot of power over a day or is it vital for the hydros?

hydro's and air are 'slightly' different beasts. out the box hydro's are far more powerfull and off longer 'play time' i.e the amount of power in your batteries. Air is slower and your 'play time' is realted to the amount of air in the tank.

Both systems can be modified to the extreme with quite phenominal results.

Air bags are 'supposed' to offer better ride quality but in my experience they dont thats because alot of 'home installers' dont understand how to engineer their systems. With both Air and Juice Ride quality and performance are a trade off from each other the better the ride you want the slower or more restrained a system becomes.

I've heard that both hydros and air make the straight line stability and cornering worse on a car - is that so?

Pics look good - how much have you dropped that? Do the arches rub at all?

not strictly true, an air ride system than performs the same a basic hydraulic system is actually more expensive as you have to upgrade the basic air ride system to match the juice.

a basic air system will cost about £1700 + £500 of upgrades a basic hydro system will cost about £2000 all in (without fitting).

I'd strongly recommend getting involved with the fitting and set up as they can be high maintenance and you need to understand whats going on.

I'd only recommend 1 uk supplier installed at this present time and thats Rayvern Hydraulics http://www.rayvernhydraulics.com as all the others are fly by night or very limited in knowledge.

a word of warning, never have an air or juice system fitted by your local garage or performance parts specialist. They have no idea or experience and make huge mistakes !

ask about on some of the UK lowrider websites/forums for help advice or installers.

lets see.. same car ALL NEW SUSPENSION COMPONENTS ? it should ride better than stock.

If you want your car to hop or dance (with juice) you have to remove/replace or change the damping effect which will create handling compromises, but these cars are not built for speed ! there are substitutes that you can use in place of dampers (shocks) to bring ride quality and stability back. Air ride is normally slow enough not to worry about removing shocks so the right bags at the right pressure should be as good as stock if not better.

the more batteries you have the more 'play time' you get but it also depends on their configuration, the more volts you have the faster the hydro's work. The stock hydro pump motor is a 12v unit, i shove 36v through it, but you can use upto 72v through them as they are only on momentarily and they are controlled by solenoids.

Also the more batteries you have at the back, the better the engine weight is offset for hopping/dancing
