Question Heya everyone!

Hello Im Stu, I am currently 17 years old and I have almost finished my driving lessons and stuff.

Everyone has a dream so let me start off and hopefully you guys can help me out ,if not dont worry. I am currently looking at the 1.2 Vauxhall Corsa's, But as my first car I want it to look lush. Im not a boy racer or anything and I wont be driving like one, but I do want a car that looks nice to drive around in. Unfortunatly the downer does come...and it comes to the Insurance

Im just looking for a cheap insurance company that can give me a good quote for a modified corsa, just with the odd bits like..Full body kit, Alloy wheels, Tinted windows and a big exhaust..thats all I really want..nothing more. This is only due to the fact that it is my first car...my 2nd one can look rubbish for all i care LOL. I have spent all night trying to get advice and I got a few quotes..but this seems to be my last option for grabbing that dream car...not too sporty..and not too standard.

Anyone know a good insurance company that can give me a decent affordable quote? My best yet is £1,900 and that includes modifications for a 1.2 Corsa LS.

All replies welcome!

Thanks

Stu

Hi Stu and welcome to TorqueCars. Try a broker they sometimes can swing one off deals with insurers. I would have thought that Adrian Flux would be best for costmetic Modifications. £1900 seems pretty good to me for a first car. If you got an older car it would be a bit cheaper. Fit a thatcham cat 1 alarm and keep it in the garage for a bigger discount. Have you done the Pass plus - anything else like this will help bring down your premium.

Have you rang around Hyperformance, Adrian Flux, Express Insurance etc?

Pick up a modified car mag like Max Power, or Performance Vauxhall and have a look at the insurer ads in the back - find companies that specialise in younger drivers and modified cars. Also have a look and see if there's an owners club you can join that will offer you a discount on insurance.

Unfortunately, you're a youngster in a "high-risk" kind of a car so insurance is always going to be monster expensive, but keep ringing around until you get the best deal, then see if you can get some cashback on it by buying through a cash-back website, a handy trick I found out a couple of weeks ago on Channel 5's It Pays to Watch.

Then drive bloody carefully for a year and cash in on the juicy one years no claims bonus! Also, have you considered Pass Plus? There are some members on here that poo-poo it, but it saved me nearly £500 on my first year's insurance, and taught me how to drive properly on motorways so I don't think it's that bad a deal.

Max Power used to do Max Driver, although I'm not sure if they still do, but you get 25% off with Adrian Flux for passing that.

Do your pass plus mate. It's totally worth it! These guys have covered insurance (Endsleigh offer a 10% discount for students). As for modding the Corsa...could you not wait a year? I know it's a pain, but it'll save you a lot of money. I had a 2001 1.0 Corsa, my first years insurance was £1200, but my second year was just below £800....which is a huge difference. The problem with you modding a Corsa is...you'll instantly be thought of as a boy racer, thus meaning higher insurance.

Anyway, welcome to TorqueCars!

hey and welcome
£1900 aint bad for a 17yo with noting in the NCB dept. my civic at 19 was costing £1300 with just alloys on. that was with no NCB as had been insured as a named driver

as for the past plus def do it. some insurance companies will only give you 10% some 25% ( same as what most insurance companies will give you or 1 year NCB ) also add you mum to the insurance this can save a huge amount ( remember that females get cheaper insurance as well as if shes been driving for xx years the experience will also count

Wait for a year like prince says as after you have been driving and gain some NCB then your insurance will heaily drop. like i said my civic was costing me £1300 to begin with after 3 years it was down to £400 that was with induction kit ecotek valve sports cat and alloys declared.

also try looking around for companies that offer a 10 month bonus accelerator. when your policy lasts just 10 months but you gain 1 years NCB. you will pay slightly more than 10months worth of a full year. as well as ( i know this is going to sound really hard for you but it helps after premiums drop a bit ) pay the policy in full and you will save quite a bit. just know im paying just over £600 for my bora with business class 1. i payed it off in full it saved me nearly £150 by putting it on a credit card and paying it off through that (0% interest compared to around what ever the insurance company wanted

try giving bell direct a call there good with young drivers like most they dont like modifications thou
