hello and heres m dilema

Hi all,
I am going up the wall tying to make a decision and wonder if any of you can help.
I have a VW T4 Westfalia Campervan, 2.5 fuel injected engine, It's quite fast for a van weighing 2.25 ton. I run it on lpg, as on petrol I get about 14 to the gallon, on lpg I get 16 to the gallon. Petrol is £1.14 per ltr gas .58 per ltr So equates to about 33 mpg equivalent cost wise.

My van doesn't at present deppreciate, I paid £13k 3 yrs ago worth £16k now. But 12000 miles a year cost approx £2k. I thought of a newish Berlingo, 55 mpg, therefore 12k per yr would cost £1100. I make a saving, but depreciation on berlingo must be £1-2 k per year I loose.

I can't decide, one is full 4 berth camper, which I dont use as camper much. One is a van which I could convert to camp in on odd occassions. Think I am too emotionally attached to decide sensibly.

Hi & welcome,
I suppose you need to decide how much camping you'll do before choosing a van. It would be worth test driving the Berlingo first, it may be more efficient but if you can't live with it then it's going to suck the fun out of the whole experience.
Does VW make a diesel version of your van? That would be the best solution.

yes vw do but in reports / vw t4 forum mpg is always a topic of interest and cutting out the bull#!#!#!#! from some, it appears even diesels, 1.9 up to 2.5 only do mid 30`s mpg. Therefore my 18-19 on lpg, if you double it [cause of price differance] is still working out reasonable for 2.25 ton being shifted about.
May keep her a little longer before making any decisions.

The answer is probably to spend a bit restoring and doing up your existing one. Reliability sounds like the main issue so renew all the hoses and leads for starters and get a full service done.
