Default Frustrated: EGR Bypass Pipe.

Hi to ALL... My Problem or 'ISSUE' is over 'EGR' Bypass Pipe for the e46 330d (204bhp) 2005, Engine. I've ONLY found one Company thats sells this bit of kit (as MOST are for the 184bhp Engines) Problem being the Censors attached cause an ERROR MESSAGE or 'CAN' put the Car into 'LIMP HOME MODE'... The Company selling this Pipe says they ONLY now of 2 Diesel Specific Remaping...
[FONT=Comic Sans MS
Email Quit from supplier;
We offer the EGR Delete Kits for 320d and 330d BMW engines, yes you will have an Engine Check Lamp on the later models, most of the time you WILL NOT have the "Limp Home" mode, only a lamp on the dash.

The only solution to this EGR lamp issue is to have the engine mapped by a Professional DIESEL Mapper NOT a Petrol Engine Mapper !! It is possible to completely remove the EGR ability. Unfortunately the only two diesel motorsport mappers we know are NOT ENGLISH, one in PORTUGAL the other in CZECH REPLUBLIC.

So if there's ANYONE out their has a solution to this or can Recommend a Company to solve this 'PROBLEM' (PLEASE DON'T say CLEAN the valve out) that would be 'GREAT'... ...

Another for you 'BUDDING' BMW Guys, Decat Down Pipes; Any R Recommendations for a Decent pipe & Price????

Thanks to anyone that can help, please PM me or leave a visitor message...

Regards

Stephen.

Hello and a warm welcome to you, nice to meet you.

I'd see what Celtic Tuning are able to do, they have a lot of experience mapping cars and lots of the guys on here really rate them.

Celtic shouldn't have any problem getting rid of the EGR in the map.

HELP: I’ve had a peak on Celtic Tunings Website, they certainly do a lot of MAPPINGS… (Need to talk to them I THINK) BUT as I live in Preston Lancs. Travelling to Glasgow is a bit of a HIKE that’s if they NEED the car present!!!
There MUST be another Diesel Tuning place a bit closer that can perform this task?
If anyone knows a way to Bypass the EGR besides a Re-Map PLEASE get in touch!!!
The other thing I’m after is a D-Cat Downpipe…. Again WHO/WERE & HOW many ££££££S??? Cheers for any input Guys…. Stephen. 8-}-

I've just had a look on the Celtic website & it says they have dealers all over the uk, contact them to find out your nearest dealer.

I've never encountered a problem that is directly attributable to exhaust gas recirculation. (more accurately, not yet, anyway). The concept of chucking spent fuel and oxygen depleted gases back into the engine is a strange one, nevertheless.

It's been around for ages as an operating principle for emission control - Austin Rover did this as far back as 1982.

Benefits - not many, downsides, well, none at all but if it messes with the car's driveability then it's clearly less than ideal.

Hi Guys.
As you’ll see, I've put the Reply from C/T over REMOVAL of the 'EGR VALVE'. So back to the 'DRAWING BOARD' I GEUSS...
I've been on a few other Forums & it SEEM to be an ongoing Problem from as far back as 2008, so surely this has been addressed by KNOW...

I've been trying to think WHAT the 'CENSER' actually MEASURES. My SUPERSTITION:
1/ EGR’s operate at Tick Over & Partial Throttle, from COLD to HOT...
Therefore, that Implies GAS TEMPS aren’t being Measured.
2/ Gas Flow!!! ‘Possible’… If that’s the Case a RESTRICTION in the Valve from Gunk would ‘LOG ERROR MESSAGES’ & Mr BMW RIP OFF Centre once on there Diagnostic would Note this Fact. ONLY Logs if it’s stuck OPEN or SHUT. (Out of Spec MAF’s DON’T Log EITHER)… Yet cause the SAME Black Smoke.
So, if anyone has an idea what signal the Censers picking-up then sending to the ECU this might help DISABLE, MODIFY or RELOCATE so no little light or shut down is going to happen.
In the meantime De-Cocking every 15-20K is my ONLY Option. SHAME REALLY.

FORWARDED EMAIL:

Stephan.

We DON'T Delete the EGR from the Software on these Models Vehicles.

Regards

Scott.

That is a shame, I thought if anyone can then Celtic can. I'm not sure there is a specialist out there. I'll ask around and if I turn up anything I'll post it in here for you.

Hi Guys.
I GUESS EVERYONE’S out of IDEAS over DISABLING or BYPASSING the 'EGR' Censer without causing a MIL Light coming on or going into 'LIMP HOME MODE'...
If anyone has FEEDBACK as to WHAT this 'CENSERS' actually MEASURING in the FIRST place (Pressure, Gasses, Flow etc) as Relocation on the NEW EGR Bypass Pipe might make the 'ECU' think its doing the same JOB as on the O/e Part... JUST a thought. Cheers to ALL. Stephen. ;o}

Did see on another Site that someone had this same Problem & was advised to use an OBG ll Diagnostic Tool to reset the ECU… ‘SHAME’ there wasn’t a ‘LINK’ for what kind of Gizmo they used as there’s LOADS out there… or the Person was STILL Active on that Site to Contact… {[

If you bypass the EGR with a pipe or within the ECU map (or both) then the DPF(s) won't regenerate fully as the exhaust temperature will not be high enough to ignite the fuel that's injected during the expansion phase.

Get rid of the tuning box as well.
