Hi Dave, welcome to Torquecars.

As a quick response to your question, you cannot simply attach a turbo to your car. Or, indeed, to any car.

Turbocharged engines do have very significant internal differences to atmospherically fed ones.

Even if the swept volume (cc) is the same as a non turbocharged engine from the same maker, turbocharged engines generally have much lower geometric compression ratios. Different rods, pistons etc. Uprated cooling and oil/water heat exchangers will all be required if you want it to last more than 5000 miles.

There is also the question of plumbing, intercooling etc etc.

It can be done, but it's costly.

It'd be cheaper to change the cams and remap it, I think Wolf do a good kit for Fords and (I need to check this) the kits won't void the ford warranty.

Welcome btw!

To answer one of your questions...no, for the boost you'd be able to safely run on standard internals and for the cost involved, it isn't worth it imo.

Stick to a good tubular manifold, exhaust, cams and a remap. There's no point going too mad on the Zetec S when you can just go out and buy an ST is there really?
