The Ford KA is also a good little car to drive and pretty cheap to run.

If you want a reliable car buy a Jap car mate. Something like a Nissan Micra or a Toyota Yaris would be a good start.

Jap engines seem to be bullet proof.

I had a 1L Corsa as my first car and hated the thing. It didn't ever break down but it was too slow for my liking. Not a bad for A to B though.

Plenty of MkII Seat Ibizas around for £1000 or less. These are durable little cars and if the worst happens (collision) you have far mroe chance in one of these than in a Corsa or Clio of similar price.

Most are well equipped as well, PAS, electric front windows and A/C are pretty common. Avoid the 1.9 non turbo diesel, it's a bit ploddy, as is the 1.0 petrol.
