I think that's a bit harsh. Of recent years Ford has really sorted out the quality control issues. I know that they're a bit prescriptive with some of the diesel engines but in general Fords are now well made and stand up well in normal use. No, perhaps they won't take the battering that you can dish out to Japanese mechanicals but then nor will most German machinery. With the possible exception of Porsche.
