That kind of thing happened when with my old Corsa. It was the linkage. I lost reverse gear. If that is the problem you can simply pop it back into place and tie it back up until you get it replaced. If it's the linkage the gear stick will feel 'all wiggly' and out of place. Another way to tell is when you drive the car it won't rev at all. If that's the case then it'll be the linkage.
