Also called exhaust manifolds. Its basically the metal pipes that connect from the exhaust ports to the downpipe (they get really hot when the engine is running so don't touch them like I ONCE did ). They generally branch from 4 pipes into 2 then 1. Yes they can affect the exit speed of exhaust gases especially if they are designed for performance. The standard type R exhaust design is actually pretty good as it is. Did you have a make of exhaust header in mind?
